Hey eZZip. Troll much?
FYI, calling somebody a troll doesn't invalidate anything that was valid previously.

At the point people were saying it is a horrid idea, there was no actual proposal on the thread, now there is one, Need me to repost it for you?
What I said in my previous post still stands—you made a poll with a poorly defined idea and look what happened to it. Most of the arguments found earlier in the thread still apply.

I did not ignore it, I clearly stated that your example is the difference between a Merc for Hire and a Patriot.

You clearly ignored it then, and are clearly ignoring it now. The whole point of that example was to give you proof of how bad this idea is. If you pass it off as "conjecture" or "differences between two groups", I swear I'll convince the rest of <previously NWH, soon to have a new name> to come in here and bombard this thread with "LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL S****Y IDEA" posts. Why? Because it's indiscriminately unfair to Merc. Corps.

While I cannot state officially what we have in the works, I'll just say that this system is not something that would support the player skill aspect of gameplay.

I have to concede that may be a fatal flaw. Thanks Paul.

This is the second (or third) time I've run across the "Mercs are the Elite" concept.

Where did that come about anyway?

I mean, from my understanding, merc companies are usually formed from the individuals that no body else wanted, for whatever reason. They might have even been formed by like minded individuals who pull their resources to try and survive.

While some of these individuals might truly be considered "elite" just because you belong to a merc unit doesn't automatically elevate you to that category.

Player created Mercenary Corps are the only Player Controlled Organization.
The people in these types of organizations can decide who can join, who can not join, who is in Command of teams who go on missions.
A lot of them are already practicing together on other games. They are creating strategies, and tactics that everyone in the organization complies with.
On opening day, be it of the Closed Beta, Open Beta, or general release, they are going to be in High Gear, Firing on all cylinders and in general, having the time of their lives.

They will, in the short term, and maybe, long term, be amongst the top ranked teams, and the Top ranked individual players.

"Rookies" and Casual Players (like me) will, likely, not be invited to join them.

Been playin mercs since the 90s and I have never been payed for an umcompleted job.
As for the bailing aspect and the padding for new players, if ya bail you should be penalized
with a loss and no check, as for the new players guess they better HTFU.

One other thing I have an opinion on, where did you ever get the idea that only mercs train in a military style?
IMO if you dont ,you might aswell drop the mechs with no pilots, atleast ya wouldnt lose the pilots:)

Paul prety much put the nail on the coffin in this thread, He said it would not work.
It is just my opinion that those who like to play together to the exclusion of playing with unknown teammates will (at this point) be able to do that best in a Player Controlled Merc Corp.
Maybe some well skilled players will be able to consistently drop together in a House Faction. But no confirmation of how that would work.
Maybe their skill in playing will allow them to rise to an invite to some of the Elite House Faction Units. But again, no details yet.
