That's what they were doing before.
I can say with certainty that I have never been in a PUG match like that before.
Honestly, I'd have to add my hat on the side of MW:O being dull since ECM came in. I'll wait and see how it pans out when people have gotten their head around it, but for now I can't be bothered to play a game where mostly I'm being sniped by 'mechs the game engine doesn't even draw for me. It doesn't matter if it can be played around, it has to be fun to learn how to do it. For a lot of folks, including myself, it simply isn't. Not being able to use the already barely-functional onboard computer to help pick out the tiny grey blob against the blurry backdrop has utterly ruined any feeling of actually playing Mechwarrior at all. I strongly disliked it before, given the crazy impulse of AC/2's, but now that I cant target the snipers at all, I just don't care.
Sure, you could say I should counter snipe, but I don't find that a fun way to play: it's just not entertaining for me.I want to shoot things that actually look like battlemechs, and fight in a way where piloting actually matters. the PUGs I've been in since yesterday have destroyed any enthusiasm for the game beyond playing with my team. That's great and all, but the game is worthless if I can't enjoy it solo too.
One thing that would REALLY help the situation, is access to in-game macros. I don't want to have to type out a line of text while my scout is completely out of control (or stationary). I want to just hit an F-key that says (I have a lock on %target: fire the LRMs!). Then my scouting would be meaningful again. Right now, my Jenner is mothballed and I can't be bothered to pug enough to buy a Raven and try that.
I'm sure it'll work itself out; I'm not meaning to have some massive rant against ECMs. Yes, I think they're pretty ******** right now, but it'll get balanced. I just won't be playing much until it is, so I can empathise with others who feel likewise.
