Why not have in game polls so every person not just those on the forums can get their point of view heard? If they actually gave two sh... Well if they cared what we thought as a whole there would be an ingame poll to vote on. We really have no voice and just argue with each other.

I say Yay though I am concerned.

It would be okay if it's a one time use in a match. However if it has the ability to be spammed constantly then I disagree. That would be far too overkill.

It's also a matter of a payment system. For now a Yay or Nay vote is too soon.

I love how you guys are losing it over your OWN speculation. Wait til they release details before you crap yourself.

And as far as competition goes... ever hear of modes that don't allow such things? Maybe a "Pure" Mode with no strikes of any kind?

Orzom had a good point. "Consumable" could mean once per match, not necessarily that you must repurchase every time.

I say nay for the purposes that this makes things like PPC, SRM, LPL and LL boats even nastier, but yay only because its a one time consumable similar to things you'd use in WOT. Still I'm more like 90% hell no, 5% maybe and 5% keeping an open mind lol. Weapons in general would need to do less damage or have lower ROF for something like coolant flush not to screw the balance of combat for the worse. I just cant see coolant flush being a really good idea unless it is a lot weaker then past renditions and at most removes 25% of the max heat threshold of a mech so no double 5x PPC alphas without still shutting down. It should be just strong enough to save you from having to pound override to take that last final LL or PPC shot to down your opponent without suffering heat damage or the like. No matter how they do this the hate for it is going to be very large amongst the active community.

Garth's words are very influential. I find myself in complete agreement. Pay-for cooling enhancements would be such a direct pay-to-win...

And then the inevitable WTF?

It can't be as strong as we are glooming and dooming about. They run everything with internal testers before it hits the beta and this would be the first thing any proper test monkey would try..

sure, if they cost 5mil cbills per use, yeah, because it's prohibitively expensive to where it might as well be mc only
if they cost 50k cbills per use, then no, because like mechs, you can buy them with reasonable cbill effort
but we don't know how much they cost yet

50-150k is still pay to win territory..

But summoner spells weren't bought with cash nor did you run out of them.

Of course, assuming you'd even run out of MWO's consumable. We have no info on that yet, only our assumptions based on the name (Which may actually be consumed in-game, but returned afterward. We've no idea yet).

Youre right, I skipped over that you have to buy it every time, Im not happy with that either, and many others, as wolvesX-s poll thread shows.

However, in that post I was addressing it game-balance wise, and it seems to be fine in that aspect(other than some number issues like stalkers 2 modules vs atlases 4).

Waaaaaaay to early to QQ... Require implementation information before the rage builds enough for properly spastic QQ post...

Heck, it's not like they are putting in 3rd person view or anything...

Agreed.

However, PGI doesn't have much of a track record with elegant implementation. So color me unimpressed thus far.

I am just curios. Were consumables ever mentioned about being in the game? I know more modules were to be added and also more functions for the Command Chair but I thought these were going to be based on the pilot's skill. I really dislike the idea of people paying MC to equip anything on their mech other than cosmetic items.

anyone who was around when pgi said "no coolant flush" has also been around long enough to know, whenever pgi says "never <something>" you know to disregard that statement. this should be nothing new

  • The 3 second Jenner.
  • Heat is fine.
  • True DHS would mean endless alphas without heat management
  • ...
</sarcasm>

I got nothing. It does not seem to be an issue - neither to PGI nor to a huge part of the community apparently. :P

Edit: This post got caught up in the Coolant Flush Thread Merger of Doom. It was originally a response to the question: "Why do we get coolant flush, but we can't test true Double Heat Sinks?"

What would be wrong if they went this route?

1 Crit, 1 ton and kinda asplody... I got better use for my Tons and Crits thanks. :P

Well, I might be wrong, but I don't think they'll make it do that. I want BT Tech in the game, like Coolant Pods, for Mech Lab customization.

So, imo, no there wouldn't be anything wrong if a Coolant Pod was added as a customization option, like adding an extra sink, or extra ammo, along those lines. A piece of equipment you put on your Mech, while weighing in advantages/disadvantages of whatever it is and building it into a design. There would be something wrong with it if is was over modeled like ECM or SSRMs, or just adding a Coolant Flush that literally takes up no space on a Mech or doesn't explode when not used for 500,000 CB a pop, etc.

Just like every other balance and gameplay concern they've addressed in a balanced and prompt manner, right?

Yes, exactly. There have been quite a few prompt hotfixes that dealt with REAL game-breaking problems... and we haven't had those on a large scale for a while now. Obviously you and I have very different opinions on that. I'm guessing you have a problem with ECM and SplatCats. I don't... and I barely run ECM in half my drops. My almost-SplatCat doesn't leave the hangar often either. Maybe 5% of my drops.

I'm just wondering why a system that can potentially be more of a heat issue is being introduced, yet we're not allowed to test Full DHS for ourselves?

I thought the same thing actually
we CANT EVEN BETA TEST IT but "here comes coolant flush!"
