well, i just gave the game a last chance... and guess what? another match ruined by ECM.

Its funny why my 1.5 ton AMS dont make the same that this 1.5 ton ECM?

Well, just uninstaling this crap.

Dot see you around guys, bye!

ECM dont so well if you're TAGged by a LRM boat.. AMS on the other hand would still be viable in such a situation...

So sick of all the cry babies, whining about ECM ruining LRMs... And the whiners crying about LRMs ruining the game..

[REDACTED] and learn to adapt your tactics.. and keep in mind.. THE GAME IS IN BETA!! That means things are constantly changing, and new things are added constantly to rebalance the game.

For one, ECM, atleast the Guardian type, shouldn't counter Streak SRM. But right now Streak SRM are quite OP, so that alteast is a good thing for the time being, until they can better balance SSRMs.
Devs did mention a thinking of making SSRMs lock on to arms and legs more than chest, to spread out the damage more.

But overall, there's tonnes of ways to counter ECM. You can either A: Kill the ECM mech. B: Counter with another ECM mech. or C: Use TAG. and lastly, D: Learn to rely more on thermal vision, to spot enemy...

If anything. ECM makes the game more interesting and forces you to rely more on tactics.. unfortunately this is bad in PUGs, because of the utter lack of any tactical sense there.. Lets hope they release in game voice chat, that might help fix that, as well as the phase 3 match-making changes....

Odd last night in 8 mans we beat the 5 ecm atlas 3 raven combo more than we lost to it, and we did not run that way ourselves.

We had 2 atlas, 2 ac20 cats, a dragon and 2 ravens and a jenner in those matches as well.

It's not a strawman. You ARE QQing on the forums about ECM.

Wrong, I am saying that ECM in its current form is too powerful and should be broken down into 3 seperate electronics suites that require choices and compromises - just like the rest of the equipment in the game. Right now putting ECM on a mech is a no-brainer. That is not QQing, that is making a reasoned analysis of the facts of game play and suggesting a solution.

Oh OK. My apologies.

I thought you were crying NERF or seconding the sentiment portrayed in this thread's title for some reason.

"ECM waaah."

Jenners are still best light mech.

"LRM waaah."

ECM, cover, and AMS (yeah, that thing they introduced early on in Closed Beta still works!) all make LRMs tough to use.

"Game mechanics waaah."

The game is in its infancy. Cut them some slack.

The Devs get it by now, people. If they don't, then they never will. This game did just get into Open Beta roughly two months ago. For the amount of time and resources these people have available, I'd say they've given us a pretty doggone good game.

There's a line between constructive criticism and whining and you, gentlemen, seem to have no clue where it is. A good, solid post calmly stating the pros and cons of a certain aspect of the game (say, ECM) will be welcomed and appreciated by those making the game, but a thread like this is just a waste of time that only fellow-whiners are going to read.

Seriously people. Let's act like big boys and girls here and HELP the Devs instead of complaining like 12 year olds whenever your toes get stepped on.

After all, these ARE big stompy internet roberts. Toes tend to get trampled a lot.

There has been tons of constructive critisisms, math, and a whole lot of ECM BAD posts.....

There is no helping them because Dudes at the Top are clueless.

No worries, things don't always come off the same over the interwebs as they do in person. I'm just as guilty of jumping to conclusions. :)

IMHO ECM is an important part of the game and should play a prominent roll. In fact I wanted it added to the game. I just believe that the current version is kind of like having a single weapon that does it all.

ECM is a pain, but I'll keep my three Catapults after tweaking their load outs a bit.

It makes them far more of a challenge to use.

Since the alternative to ECM is LRM boats and streak cats, thanks, I'll keep the ECM.

People seem to have short memories.

Sure, ECM can use some fine tuning. It even may be a good idea to let more mechs equip it as well. We will see what the next patches will bring. Until then I'll be playing my Hunchback and be having fun.

I disagree entirely. I would MUCH rather fight streakcats versus the mass of ECM equipped mechs that appear match after match after match. I don't even remember the last time I saw an enemy AWS or CN9, hardly anyone 8v8 pilots those anymore. At least when streakcats were popular, a pilot could use a myriad of tactics and a bit of skill to take them down, but no amount of skill or tactics can make my CN9-A's dual streaks lock onto an ECM mech. If I'm not on top of my own ECM teammates in a battle, both my missile hardpoints are just wasted space. It's embarrassing and ridiculous that ECM was implemented this way.

You sure can't get into flanking position to use your missiles against Mechs at the edge of ECM bubbles or against enemies that get too far away from the main fight after some time of battle. Such occasions never happen. And SSRMs never lock on around 200 meters despite ECM. Yeah, totally wasted.

SSRMs are a lightweight backup weapon. Who makes you streakjunkies think you should be able to win matches with those things?

By the way, I use Jenner, Cataphract and Stalker, so no ECM Mechs here, but some rather missileheavy configs.

ECM is out of control now. Most pugs I see now are 6 out of 8 players in ECM mechs and its ********.

I just cant help but keep wondering just what ignorant intern @ PGI ignored his fresh out of college education and just plain common sense to decide to give one module the ability to completely switch off multiple weapon systems, 'stealth' AND increase lock times all at once with one flip of a switch with ZERO... ZERO cost to the user?

That... should be grounds enough for dismissal. Stupidity of that magnitude has not been seen since the days of SWG NGE.

OK, How about making ECM an option for all mechs and reduce the range it covers for others on your team. This gives everyone the option and gives a group of lone wolves a chance to put up a good fight, as to getting creamed in less then 5 min by a team with ECM.

You can still hit ecm ravens with lasers, ballistics and srms. People just need practice leading.

That's hard to do with all the rubberbanding going on in this game. If you don't have Streaks, it actually takes you longer to drop a Light than it does to drop an Atlas, and the ECM makes Streaks pretty much unusable unless you have an ECM too. This is all a pile of shat.

This. It's jesus in a box. All pray to the jesus box, and it shall bring us victory over our enemies.

S!

ECM lights would not even be an issue if they could be reliably hit. With all the oddities going on like rubberbanding, warping and so forth, it is very hard to kill them thus making the "ECM problem" look bigger than it actually is. In my opinion when/if PGI gets a better netcode then the ECM lights become more vulnerable thus have to re-think their tactics. If we get collisions back and even better netcode = problem pretty much solved regarding lights. Just my 0.02€..

Fixed netcode fixes the ECM light issues, is does not fix the ECM issue overall. Even with the proposed changes to TAG, you still have the exact issue you had before. Every single mech you field either doesn't use lock on weapons, has to have TAG equipped (sucks to be an A1), or has to have ECM. Until it gets brought down in strength that will continue to be the case even after lag shieldin is fixed.

I know, but one step towards a better gaming experience when/if we get better netcode and collisions implemented. ECM overall could use some tweaking for sure, but can only wait and see what happens.

Dev Blog 2 has some of the other info warfare stuff that apparently is to come into MWO. Problem with ECM is that it is just one of those too be added. Some of the other modules and equipment look like they would be it's counters. Such as the UAV and Detectors.

Then they should take ECM back out and wait till all the stuff is ready instead of pushing one OP module out then say "Yep dis is fine!" and look like a bunch of drooling tards
