It's actually because it invalidates heat as an issue in a team vs. team environment.

Maybe they sent him on vacation so he wouldn't have to eat flak directly for that line.

Another alternative idea:

an endgame module that allows a "coolant dump", allowing you to drop your heat, but losing a certain percentage of heat dissipation for the rest of the game.

CBill/MC cost is not an effective balancing mechanic. I had hoped this was realized when R&R was removed.

I'm not trying to give him flak. I'm trying to support his assertion. I think PGI screwed him over hard on this and I wholeheartedly agree with his words. Coolant Flush is pancaking stupid, has no place in the game, and it's pretty pancaked up of PGI to go back on their stated position on the matter. Doubly so since it pancakes over one of their staff pretty royally.

It's a balanced feature. Seriously, I don't understand the meltdown over this.

I can either:

1) Use MC then have a single use option that takes up one slot. If my mech has limited slots, I still need to make choices about my consumables. If I don't run hot, this is a good option for me.

2) Use C-Bills. I have 2 (smaller) flushes that I can use in two helpful situations. If you are in need of slots, maybe your weapons load out is not optimal for your mech if you get that hot that often. That's your own fault.

The concern is that players can just use a credit card to win matches, rather than genuinely besting an opponent, it's dishonorable. The way it is on paper, you do have an edge over other players. Both of those options you're talking about, they flush a total of 35% of your heat, but one has the option of one less module slot if you cough up the cash.

Just having the option to use smaller flushes twice is not at all relevant, when you're at max heat, you rarely get the opportunity to go back to zero heat. Should you also use a smaller flush, it doesn't take long to generate more heat and have to flush again, there isn't this wastage you're talking about.

Q: Have you guys considered adding Coolant Pods to increase heat dissipation of a mech's heatsinks when used? [vayne]

A: Yes, we considered and then dropped the idea. We found it more of a crutch and lead to more issues than it helped with. If you're in a long, multi-targetted single player game, it makes sense. In a player vs. player environment you get a MASSIVE increase in firepower for no cost, or it wouldn't be enough to make a difference (IE. the match would never last long enough for you running out of coolant to matter, because you've already killed two people. Or, it doesn't even last a single fight, then why even have it?) Does that make sense? [Garth]

Even if they announce that they're not going to do consumables I will never spend money on this game ever again.

They simply aren't trustworthy, because they've lied to us too many times about too many things.

Yeah, I'm starting to think you're right.

Well, I'm prepared to uninstall tomorrow, depending on what gets shoved down in the patch. We'll see.
