I have had alot of fun countering and playing with ECM.
People need to re learn to use direct fire weapons lasers/ballistics.
The game is more fun when you have to position yourself to take shots.. not just lock and fire.

I already have a poll open where you can cast your vote on that issue but the majority of members who voted indicate that they think it is op.

Nonsense! Getting a lock on a fast light mech circling you at close range is MUCH harder than waiting for your crosshairs to be over the target then pressing the button. I'm all for being able to dead-fire SSRMs, but that should be the option for when you don't have time or don't need to get a lock.

I agree, I think it is fun like it is as well.
BUT
ECM should not block your ability to target enemy mechs. It should eliminate your bonus from artemis, jam your BAP, disrupt your C3/C3i, suppress NARC beacons, and counter other ECM. Systems unaffected by ECM are standard mech targeting systems, advanced targeting computers, and TAG.

Actually, ECM blocking NARC is about the only reasonable thing about it; ECM jams by emitting static at the same frequency as whatever it is trying to jam. However, that should make it light up like a Christmas tree on every other sensor out there.
I think that we are all trying to ignore the ridiculous nature of the thing and just trying to suppress our disbelief long enough to get it balanced.

And don't forget: only with ECM can foilage get some form of tactical relevance. Blindly aiming for the reticle is just too easy. If there is one thing that has been TT canon from day one it's cover from forest. Blindly aiming at reticles sure isn't.
On the other hand, the level of LRM immunity is certainly much too strong now. But the fix would be easy: make it possible to lock LRM on visually spotted, non-reticuled, non-R-ed targets (e.g. targets hidden by ECM) and all would be fine. Just make sure that you don't give the LRM-pilot early feedback about the beginning of a lock-on process, because that would make LRM too much of a semiautomatic hidden-mech-detector.
It's a little sad how the limited availability of ECM downvalues the other subtypes of the same basic chassis, but you really would not want to have cloaked AC snipers in the game. Just think of ECM requiring a specially rare hardpoint type.
