I just noticed a handful of treads get locked--this this normal practice for this forum? There wasn't anything remotely bad compared to some other game forums that I follow in these threads.

Yes. Unproductive, duplicative, ranty threads get locked. I am glad they are.

Most other game forums are terrible places.

If this kind of rule was strictly followed, a couple of threads will remain.

Because they are protected by ECM.

yea, but some of the best threads have been some of the least productive...

This forum has too many of em, like I'm not allowed to post pictures of black/white cats with marks that look like mustaches. (yes really got warned about that)

You may have notice the moderating team has stepped up closing threads.

With the creation of the Command Chair forum section, we're working hard to address common hot topics. Part of keeping information flowing, is closing topics that are well document, discussed, or not designed to further a constructive conversation.

Outside of closing threads for standard Code of Conduct/Terms of Service issues, the moderation team will close any thread that has been answered by a developer, leaving a link to the appropriate information.

While it may seem heavy handed, we are doing this for the sake of the community, to promote new ideas, and to keep busy sections of the forums from filling up with noisy threads.

I was going to use a Darth Vader reference, but this being BattleTech n all.. (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Kael_Pershaw)

I miss the kitchen threads and that haunakkah thread was epic pre-edit/ "temporary" lock

I don't mind personally. It's their forum so let them do what they want. Less clutter would hopefully produce better discussions.

This thread also explains the frequent locks.

Probably not but one can dream :P

It's not a bad precedent, it's good moderation. It's when the mods become heavy handed that it becomes bad. This hasn't happened yet. Unless you're one of the ones starting unproductive, whiny threads, then you may feel that your being overmoded.

Well whenever you start seeing forums with players elevated to moderators, you can except a disparity in perception as to to what should be locked.

I'd disagree, when I get poorly written, typo infested PMs from IGP paid moderators I wouldn't call that good moderation.

Can't talk too much about it or post an example though, wouldn't want to get bannated for "discussing moderation"

I much preferred the community moderators to the IGP drones.

That's just it I've never seen it done w/o a heavy hand.

As game forums go, especially for one that is in beta (Though it seems the bulk of the player base here forgets they're not playing a final release), this forum is VERY lightly moderated.

The problem is if you don't do anything the forum fills up with flavor of the month duplicate threads. How can we talk about any but ECM when people keep making ECM threads saying the exact same thing? Too many people think their snowflake response deserves its own thread.
