So a thought struck me the other day about adding something a little special to a match, as for me personally in all of the MechWarrior / Mech Commander games the salvage at the end was the true icing on the cake.

If there was an option to go into a match where you can perma lose your mech but you could salvage defeated enemy mechs if your team wins, would you do it?

There'd be some kinks to work out of course. For instance if your team loses but your still up and running do you get to keep it. How salve would split amongst a victorious team (my thought on the matter would be a bidding system post match, and for unwanted mechs the value is split between the team).

Sound off!

Maybe with the first salvageable clan mech I get.

If it is team vs team.
Not if it is randoms, if i loose it should be because the other team had a better battleplan
not because some randoms ran willinilli .

I smell fowl roasting under an oven..

Risk = Gains
Greater Risk = Greater Gains

What ever happened to confidence, and self esteem?

I love this idea.

gambling in all its forms is for idiots.

calculated risks, or risks intended to have real lasting consequences, sure.

Depends on how much buying and modifying the 'mech I use takes. I can easily see it taking few hundred matches to get enough C-Bills to mechlab something like Dragon as I wish. Losing it in fight isn't too amusing prospect, especially if it's due to random hacker/griefer/teamkiller or just a bad random team.

Granted, the experience progress is not something you'd lose. On the other hand, since you will need experience points/loyality points to unlock some stuff in the first place that would naturally limit what kind of stuff you can gain as salvage.

Would i do it?? Well words like that arent allowed on the forums....but emphatically...NO!

To win you need to rely on your team and of the 12 mechs on the teams, only 3 will I be able to rely on, thats myself, my dad and uncle. The rest of the 9, well....they are WoT players in my eyes...useless tards who cant tie their own shoes, much less pilot a mech and if you think im risking losing my mech in a PuB match where noone really cares about what happens?...boy you couldnt be more WRONG!

If i had a handpicked team from all the pubbies I play up to that point and pick players who have shown they have a clue and could pilot something past a 25cent horse outside a grocery store, then maybe I would play in one of those winner takes all battles...but in a random pubbie? nope...NEVER! Playing WoT has totally destroyed any hope or faith I have in Pubbies......4000+ battles and in everyone of them..its the same cluelessness and quite frankly, its old and retarded...I am sure it will be the incompetence of the players in this game that will ultimately lead to me hating and quitting this game as well....The game maybe be great...but playing it and doing everything right in my battles but losing in the end because the rest of the team just CANNOT get a clue and win...naw....im done with that BS....Same with WoT...I love my Tank, that M103, its pretty good, I do more then my share of damage and I more then fill out my slot on that team but after its all said and done...well, its just a loss because the other 14 didnt have a clue...I am not to say i dont make ***** maneuvers from time to time, but as a general rule..naw I try to have my **** together...

Honestly I think there should be separate game modes or servers for a mode like this.

I don't think someone should be able to, say, deck out their 'Mech in non-hardcore mode, and then show up in a hardcore match with a really powerful, min/max'd chassis-experience-maxxed-out 'Mech.

I feel like imbalanced teams with more guaranteed rewards would exploit this mode, preying on newbies or less-well-equipped opponents, or merc corps would find a way to destroy less-organized teams.

It's a cool idea though, and if it's strictly voluntary, I don't see what harm it can truly cause, aside from people risking things and making bad decisions and then blaming the devs when they lose all their stuff and they quit playing.

Should be an optional game mode, for duels if your into such a thing.. that's all Solaris really is, somehow evades me how some can't see how the two equate.

I don't think the OP is suggesting forcing this down the throat of every player, that would be obnoxious.

I could go with it being a Solaris type of deal, voluntary....but if it was Wargaming it would be a gamemode right in their random MM rotation and you wouldnt have any option but to play it....ugh...

You say min/max'd out chassis..is this game going to have equipment upgrades like WoT? I know of the pilot spec's but do we have to unlock our weapons or something? As in we only start with like SMall Lasers, HMGs and a few SRM2s and LRM5s? then have to unlock the rest?

I chose no based on team play. I wouldn't risk losing a mech in an environment where someone else's mistake could cost me a mech.

Now, if there was an option for a sort of 1 on 1 duel match where the winner keeps the loser's mech then the concept seems a bit more reasonable. I still doubt it would happen though.

This would be fine on Solaris. I hope there is a system of options we can check off before being matched up, one of them being winner takes all for example. Its a game show, why not?

Sure, 1v1 or grand melee style. But not at launch, later™ in an arena setting whenever that should be implemented.

Then those results can be poured over and a match option could be introduced after all the clan and IS upgraded tech is introduced and balanced.

I am missing options. What does the Scout get? If someone was used as bait, will he get nothing? If someone is keeping his arse out of line and only collects the easy kills, will he get most, because of most kills?

Additional options:
1. Fair split for everyone.
2. Highest value in battle (not dealt damage!) = biggest amount of salvage.

Yes! Do it for all of the mercenary fights. Make the salvage all go to the leader to be distributed as needed. It will make the fights that much more epic.
