As I wait for this game to come online I keep seeing people saying in the forums that the unseen cant be included or that the developers cant include the unseen or any variation of we cant have those or we wont get these etc etc etc. Now I know the painful history of what happen with the unseen so we don’t need to rehash it but has there been any official announcement made as to their status? And I also know they are not going to look like they did in the 80s but can we have mechs that have the name, tonnage, and weapons-load out of those classic machines?

I don't know of anything official. I'm just personally hoping they're left out. We have plenty of awesome Mechs to draw from without having to resort to blatant rip offs. The Unseen are just Robotech wannabes and not truly Battletech in my personal opinion. You're free to disagree of course. That's just me and my hatred of anime speaking.

Sorry but it is currently unknown whether the unseen will make it in the game.

Reseen models would be cool imho. Many of them are better in my opinion. Though of course, there is the fanboy rage who will have the originals or nothing... just like the Mad Cat rage... it's weird but that's just the way it is.

For my 2 cents there's just a lot of speculation and a forum frenzy over what will and won't be included.

We know for sure 10 'mechs we'll see.

What we will or won't get to play with at Beta or full release is all still in the hands of the coders and artists. You can bet though that Piranha is going to be very careful with the whole Intellectual Property thing. The last thing they need is that kind of fight adding to the risk they are already taking on this.

I'd love to see some of my old friends make it into this. My first TT pilot was in a Shadow Hawk. I had several pilots go through Pheonix Hawks as well.

If the devs stick close enough to the spirit of the TT rules I'm almost positive you won't see the LAM variants. According to the tech manuals they were extremely rare by 3025, let alone 3049. (I'm going from memory here so feel free to correct me if anyone has their TROs handy :D )

I can understand your thinking on this but I started playing the game in 1985 these mechs were part of the history of battletech. To not have them in the game would be like playing a world war 2 game without panther and Sherman tanks. And trust me as I said before I know that they will not look like they did but they accounted for almost 80 % of the mech production during this time frame and in fact most of the mechs so far introduced in the game with a few exceptions were very rare. Do you really want Jamie Wolf or Morgan Kell piloting a catapult?

Ya I see your point. It's just an ugly situation the franchise has gotten itself into. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what happens in MW:O

HG never actually owned any of the rights to the designs the Unseen were based off of anyway. FASA just didn't have the cash to show up those wannabe's in court.

I for one am starting a "cold beer" fund for the unseen. If we see em lets do the following.

1. We stop calling them unseen, hell most of us know what they look like, call em what they are.
2. We buy obcene amounts of beer and ensure it is cold. I mean very cold.
3. We toast the devs and praise them for their good work and our good fortune. I mean.. mechs and cold beer.. who needs a cooling vest at this point?

4. We drink this beer until we need to get rid of it the old fasioned way.

5. We continue until cold beer is gone and I can't pilot a mech.

:D

I take issue with point number 5 (in bold), because a true MechWarrior would never be too drunk to pilot their 'Mech.

Well if you haven't noticed the MW:O mechs dont look like your regular run of the mill versions of mechs from the old artwork. So my guess would be if the Warhammer, Longbow, Marauder, Archer, etc. and any others from this list were to be created. They wouldn't look like the picture.

List of Unseen

Compare the MW:O Centurion, to the Old School Centurion

While VERY similar, and ALMOST identical, they aren't identical and the MW:O version looks way better.

Why does point number #5 remind of the old saying that "Wars are started that way" :D

I am totally onboard for a redesign so far the treatment done to the ones showcased appear to look like they could work in real life. From the time of the first battletech table top game I have wanted to know what it is like to try my hand at piloting a wasp to see if I could be as good as the people in the fluff or pilot an Archer and see if I could live up to the standards of Jamie Wolf or Morgan Kell. Heck give me a Warhammer and let me see if I could destroy as many mechs as the black widow. So I am asking the developers to please give me the chance to make my dreams come true!

Clearly you've never seen this mech. Still one of my all-time favourites.

The "Unseen" were only unseen because of the artwork. Project: Phoenix resulted in new artwork and the full re-legalization of almost all the Unseen Mechs. They can be used right now, assuming you use the new artwork. Additionally, Flying Debris would be creating new artwork and if his art is based on the Project Phoenix artwork then there is nothing stopping PGI from putting the Unseen in the game.

Even though Project Phoenix is 3067 tech, you can simply RetCon the artwork and use it for 3049.

Grim I've been without alcohol for six years now, but if they give us the Unseen, especially the way they've been redesigning mechs as they have, well, I'm right there with you on the beers. That would be worth drinking again.

A complete redesign isn't even needed. First, they've already partially done that (TR Project Phoenix), second I was actually reading earlier today (or yesterday, whatever) that Catalyst Game Labs, who currently makes the RPG stuff was able to work out a deal on some, except Macross ones, personally all my faves are from Dougram, so maybe it's doable to just negotiate. Also, BattleTech is weird interest for someone that dislikes anime, being largely based on anime (although with alot of realism thrown in, except for LAMS).

WizKids brought back nearly all the Unseens as their Re-seen designs for the Dark Age game. No fuss was raised over it; the game had enough popularity and longevity that there was no way Harmony Gold "missed" their reappearance, at least in my not-so-humble-opinion. I think it'll just be a matter of time before we see them, with the only obstacles being frame animations, concept art and model testing.

Of course, HG may decide to cause trouble anyway. They're the EA of the RPG gaming world. :D

Although the original artwork for the mechs were taken from animes, the designs as far as armor points, weapons load-outs, engines and movement were all Battletech specific using Battletech rules. That's why, in my opinion, the unseen mechs are no less worthy than any other design in the game. I agree that the redesigns that the designers are coming out with would probably be far enough off from the originals to not infringe on any copyright vah-jay-jays. What I'd like though, is for MW:O designs to be based off the Reseen designs with the Unseen-based designs to be a skin that you can pay a small amount of money for. I think it'd be a win all-around. Anyone could pilot a Marauder or Shadow Hawk, if you want you could get the classic look, and Piranha Games could make some money for their F2P game (also with it just being a skin, it wouldn't affect game play). I'd pay a couple bucks to pilot the original Shadow Hawk design.
