Will there be Maps strictly dedicated to Small and Medium Mechs?

I think a large part of that thinking for me is that I love the feeling I get when I take down a big beastie of a Heavy/Assault 'Mech.

An all light/medium match would take some of that fun away. There wouldn't be any really slower mechs to dance around, no serious firepower to call down or avoid... The roles would be severely truncated, and I hope that's not in the cards for this game.

Exactly, thats what i was trying to say, to be more clear, maps can take any class of mech, but will there be class restricted battles is the more accurate way to phrase my question.
In quick play, "normally" match maker will limit a match based on tank level, again "normally" you would have tier 1& 2 tank battles and then 3-5 battles etc etc
The difference is, I believe as Aedensin mentioned, that all classes of mechs can damage all classes of mechs. Which means you'll lose in a brawl against a heavy if you're a light, but if you play smart you can keep harassing and doing damage. In World of Tanks, how many times have you seen your light/medium tank bounce shots off of more armored tanks? That wont happen in MWO. Thus no need to segregate the battles based on class of mech, they should all be useful in all matches. Thats the hope anyway.

Think what he means is for the lower tiers they block out the top tiers. That in effect leaves out the heavies. Only happens in WoT because of the tier progression. There is no tier progression in MWO so no need for a mechanic like that.

Also balance woudlnt probably hold for a match with roles limited.

The two game modes as of now are "one and done" and "four consecutive spawns." As purely conjecture, I would add that to make the "four consecutive spawns" mode work you may need to own four different mechs (or just pay repairs four times over?)

Also where WoT messed up, in my opinion, was that there was not any light or medium dedicated maps in clan wars (rvr type situations) and that really limited the end game rvr for the causal and new players. In WoT and also POTBS you needed to grind to max level to seroiusly contribute in the end game rvr.
I hope MW:O adds maps for light and mediums only for end game rvr
just my 1/2 cent on the topic
People need to stop comparing wot to mwo.... In my opinion there is no need to separate classes.. you will see on battlefield lights/mediums chasing each other and doing their thing.. maybe if devs let us create private matches there could be option to restrict some classes but in normal games one big NO

MWO's "advantage" will even the playing field somewhat.
^ this. An armor point is an armor point, a medium laser is a medium laser. All mechs have strengths and weaknesses and there is no reason to seperate out mechs by chassis type. IF this mode is demanded by the community (I personally would never use it), it should be an afterthought. It is totally secondary to good and balanced gameplay.

I hear what you are saying and understand. i hope PGI sticks with the premise anyone can play any mech, my only conern would be if there is a grind for heavy or large mechs and depending on the grind many would lose interest by the time they grind a heavy or assualt mech
