I'm most likely going to save up money to buy the Stalker, yes, but first I'm going to make sure I have the C-Bills to max it by fitting the largest XL-engine that's a multiple of 25 in it, plus modify it with endo-steel and DHS. Because it's probably going to have small side-torsos like the catapults do, it won't be so risky to run a XL.
In other words it's probably going to be able to plod along at 70 klicks an hour if they don't limit the engine size to something daft like only 275.

it goes 54KPH, and so does the Awesome with its 240, but the stalker comes with a 255, and i think that lands it in the potential 300 territory, which is perfect since i have a 285xl and a 300xl sitting around. should get in the 60kph range. but i might forego the Endo steel. XL and endosteel is a delicate dance on heavies, and assaults is flat out precarious. but no lower arm actuators might be enought with the +4 structure points. but XL, i hope, will be a good choice with this mech. (unlike the atlas and awesome)

I am awaiting it eagerly.
Didn't like the awesome much at all.

Stalker will be the brawler Catapult's (C1/C4) larger nastier brother.

That current class-based matchmaking for the pubstomp queue makes the top tonnage available in a class the best choice?

Or that the complete lack of BV/tonnage/class balancing for 8 mans means there's no reason to pick a slow mech that isn't the atlas?

Or did you mean something else entirely?

Here's the issue... Atlas vs a Stalker is a fairly even fight... the Atlas has a 15 ton advantage, but it doesn't translate into 15 tons better... slightly more armor.. slightly more internals... but if you think the Atlas D DC will beat a stalker 1 on 1....you are going to be in for a surprise....

But yeah the "must pick max weight to be useful" folks are usually inept and I enjoy wiping the floor with them.

Stalker known variants - 3F, 5M, 3H, 4N, 5S
STK-3F (4 Missile 6 Energy) base variant
STK-5M (5 Missile 5 Energy)
STK-3H (4 Missile 4 Energy)
STK-4N (3 Missile 6 Energy)
STK-5S (4 Missile 6 Energy ) AMS?

I'm guessing the variants will have different ct/arms/shoulder weapon mount types since these variants basically have the same amount of weapons.

I'm thinking the 5M ...

1 ER PPC
1 LRM 20

4 large pulse laser
4 SRM 6

This gives it a good long range and beyond long range firepower and heavy medium to short range punch with very manageable heat considering the SRMs are the point blank shotgun and the large pulsers are for precision work. This setup I'm guessing would have plenty of tonnage left to max heatsinks in all remaining crit slots.
