For those that don't know: Sync dropping is having two groups clicking "launch" at the same time in the hopes that the matchmaker will put them in the same match.

Do they work the same way sync-dropping matches worked before phase 1? Or is it broken now that there's no class matching?

If they do work, what kind of success rate do people see?

The reason I ask is that I'm toying with the idea of getting a 1v1 duel tourney going. Probably just a one-day event at first. Still working out the details, but I know a lot of people love a good duel, and this is a possible way of getting some going without that one jackov who decides to butt in and ruin it.

Syke Rangers and HHoD where sync dropping a couple nights ago and managed to get each other a decent amount of times.

I believe the OP is asking about syncing 8-man teams vs. other 8-man, not 4+4.

I'm not sure myself but this disappeared with the other thread and I thought it was relevant.

Getting back to the OP you are correct in what your description of sync drops are. Not going to comment on current success rates but they do seem to work.

Edit: If memory serves an entire tournament was ran this way.

1 that threads irrelevant to 8v8 sync and 2 that was a community mod making things up, paul posted in a later thread that they were cool with 4+4 sync drops

Correct.

I'm not asking about people's opinions on the practice, just whether it still works, and if so, how reliable it is.

The 8 man queue is so empty it's pretty reliable despite the lack of weight-class match making.

Well, may the queue for 8 be empty because there is no class matching right now.

Never the less, it's a shame that we have to rely on things like sync drops just to organize ourselves and socialize a bit.

so does that mean the team remaining in the 8-man queue has won MWO?

It is far from empty. We've had about as much luck sync dropping now as we did before phase 1. Some nights it works flawlessly while others (tonight) you only end up matching 1 out of 5 times.

Hello Harlequin Corps,
This is not considered as an exploit and the actual system is only the first phase made to change the match making, this is not the final match making system which is in place now.

Are timed team drops an exploit or not? A timed drop is where 2 or more team leaders do a countdown to attempt to drop either against eachother or on the same team as eachother. We are trying to train units and individuals in units. And since the game has no support for units and unit level training and certification this is the only available technique to conduct individual training, certificatin and unit qualification. We would also like to conduct weapon testing, which you can only do against someone you are talking to.

If it is an exploit are you going to ban accounts for using it?

RHoD is stating a pretty successful rate at dropping in planned 8v8s. If I remember correctly they said they matched correct on 5 out of 6.

Should be doable.
