PC gaming nowadays besides MMO's is a very hard sell due to piracy. Microsoft got rid of the Mechwarrior license because there just wasn't a way to make money with it. You can't expect a AAA developer to develop it due to the risk.

That being said, I've seen worse, a lot worse come out of AAA studios for balanced PVP: Star Wars the Old Republic /cough.

Yet.. Battlefield 3 and Skyrim Made almost half a billion in sales each on PC alone (not counting Consoles). I have seen declaration of some publishers that they admit that might be indeed a lesson they need to study.

Good games still sell a crapton oN PC. They just need to stop making half finished c rushed projects and delivers somethign unique and never seen (As Skyrim was) and you make a stupid ammount of money.

Which could work up until the community warfare.

Lets see...

Planetary Enviroments
-Urban
-Desert
-Mountain
-Tundra
-Jungle
-Archipelago (think Hawaii island chain)
-Swamps
-Caves
-Asteroids
-Orbital Stations

That's 10 maps. Now we add 4 maps per environment, that's 40 maps. Let's add weather patterns to flesh out the maps.

Weather
-Fog (light/heavy)
-Rain (light/heavy)
-Snow/Sandstorm
-Regular Weather (cloudy/sunny)

Now, weather can be added regardless of map so that's a potential 320 'different' maps.

That should cover most community warfare scenarios.

We can also flesh this out.

Enviromental
Gravity (low/normal/high)

Now we have a potential 960 different scenarios with 40 basic maps.
That all sounds great, should be done around 2029. In the meantime buy this digital lump of coal for 5 bucks, or a single mech variant for $25. Don't forget we have $100 dollar packages for you to play on the 4 maps we do currently have!

Well tbh, I personaly find Planetside 2 to be a piece of poop. I am going to check Hawken out, tho from what I've seen till now it has more of the FPS and less tactical approach compared to MWO. And that is why I think i will like MWO more.

I like the idea for LRM trajectory and for the effects to your mech while overheating but I do not agree with your movement requests nor your minimum range for cannons, cannons dont have a minimum range, if you stand in front of a cannon and its fired youre going to get hit... 1 cm away or 90m away, you would still get hit, its a large piece of metal flying at you at a high velocity

You have obviously never played BattleTech. LRMs/PPCs/AC2's/AC/5s/Gauss all have mins in range. MWO just never put them in, again making them un-balanced, and not following the real games balancing stats.

yeah i think we're hitting a brick wall when forum lurking is more interesting than the game it supports. speaks volume doesn't it?

Huh? No, its just easier to procrastinate in college by going on a forum then being really obvious about it and playing a video game.

Again, why does logic take a back seat in everything in this god forsaken place?

This game will be great in 2 years, if it lives that long.

I played Hawken beta - it feels more like an arcade shooter that is only mecha-themed rather than a full scale mecha simulation.

Also for some reason Hawken gives me feeling of piloting eastern-mecha (like those from Armored Core) despite western design.

Personally I love this game, and play every spare minute I get. But this i completely understand;
http://m.pcgamer.com...e-year-nominees
And before all the 'but it's beta' calls so is DOTA 2, Hawken goes open beta today, and planetside has only just gone release.
Sad state of affairs.

Holy ****, Hawken is live?

;) :D

except that every player in the game IS your adversary... Try playing the game youre talking about first.

5 Years Eve-online playing, startet 1 Month before Castor, 2 Years intensiv fighting in the South against the RA.

And i mean an Adversary to Eve-online. Eve-online game out after the launch of Starlance, Jump-gate. And when those games died, Eve-online stayed on and the Players went over to Eve-online. And the Expectations what to do and what you can achieve shifted more and more, and at some point it wasn't my game anymore. I got 2 Chars able to fly Carriers and Dreadnopughts. But it is not my Game any longer. So i quitted. And thats something just happening with MWO.

Eve-online is atm the only Big title as Space Game. Eveochron etc never hit the market. So no real Game as Adversary. Star Citizen will change it. And then you have again the Choice of playstile.

MWO was the only open Walking Tank Game for some time.
And now it's shifting very fast into the Mechshooter Direction, but there is a new Mechshooter already
waiting out there. Which seems to be better in several ways, if you expect to play a Mechshooter, more Gundam Pewpew like. And it will draw Players from MWO to Hawken. Leaving PGI the choice to go more into the Mechshooter section or to into the Mechsim Section.

And thats what i said: There is a Adversary out there for MWO now. Drawing players from one side to another because it has other Gamemechanics. This can be very good, when PGI goes for the Mechsim section more, which the BT Franchise supports or very bad when they went for the competition in the Mechshooter Section as they will loose because the BT Frnachise as oldshool Scifi Themed will problematic to it.

We all like Mech's but there are two Faction: the Mechsim players and the Mechshooter players.
Together we want total different Games... but atm we are stuck with ONE open Beta Title... tomorrow, we have TWO open Beta Titles, and that will Change a lot.

Hawken will be the Dedicated Mechshooter, they even announced it Hybrid between CS and Mechwarrior.
Mechwarrior online... ATM they don't know and are stuck between the Chair.

MW2 was a Combat simulator
MW3 was kind of a Combat simulator
MW4 inheretted lot from the Combat Simulator games called MW

It's a wake up call cause most the list is crap or in closed beta. And I'm fairly sure it's a statement of their nominees, not an opinion piece.......

Battletech has been a living game without fanfare or accolades for the better part of 3 decades. I think the MMO can survive without the thumbs up from a gamer mag. Specially since all we are right now is a one trick pony. (Assault in 6 flavors). There is no depth nor content to make this game stand out as Awesome! YET.

Pointless topic. No Mechwarrior game ever had any kind of mass-appeal, so why would anyone expect a Mechwarrior game in a poll like this?

Actually there was a time where MechWarrior games had mass-appeal. The good old days! :)

Look at their website http://www.playhawken.com/ and look at all the award and acclimations Hawken already has.. Their open beta launches tomorrow.. A real Open Beta launch, not just a change of words to open advertise and start charging money for a substandard product,

Compare that with Mechwarrior Online; Grand promises, empty delivery... It's really sad this game is dying before it's even released with interest and publicity so low(aside from all the paid ads), no one to blame but the devs and publisher.

The white knights deserve respect and pity for their loyalty to a shoddy product with all their posts, be gentle with these guys, they deserve your empathy.. They really tried but it's not their fault.

Plenty of good games to play, this one unfortunately was made by a group of greedy shortsighted duds.

And yet, you can just watch the videos of Hawken play and see it stinks.

Perhaps.

The question is - what plans do they have for the future?

I agree that I had hoped/believed that PGI would deliver content faster within the open beta. I have tried the closed beta of Hawken and yea, it's a different beast, it plays more like a mech version of TF2 and really DO feel more like a 'shooter'.

But let's also look on what they promise/have.

-Weapon systems: Far more limited
-Maps: Cramped cityscapes ONLY (either I've been damn unlucky or they are well hidden)
-Game modes: Yea, there are more of them and PGI is not in the lead.
-Less complex machines: Fewer weapons, more "hitpoint" system than damage locations
-Community Warfare: Nope, just drop in combat like TF2

If anything PGI might have taken on something more than they could chew in the timeframe they had planned but at least they have a plan for something more.

Essentially Hawken is far less complex than MWO and have less role warfare and special equipment.

Both games MIGHT be good but they are also two quite different beasts.

In the eyes of the greater public, MWO is dead before release.

Hawken Open Beta in 8 hours if anyone wanna try a real game and not a reboxed MW4 online scam
http://www.playhawken.com/

I have registered for Hawken and will try it.

But awards don't mean jack ****. Just look at Tribes Ascend.

Editors Choice -- from something
10/10 -- from some gamer site
Editors Choice --- from Pc Gamer
10/10 --- from Euro Gamer

I give those awards 100/100 on my ******** award

The entire gaming site industry is corrupt. That is common knowledge.
Only feedback on forums matter.

But it will be interesting to try Hawken. It could be fun. I wonder how well it runs.

I remember OB day on MWO, all the cb tester saying it wasn't ready and begging the devs to hold it off for the future of the game.. Lol....

Suppose giving Hawken a go wouldn't hurt.. Your right, their forums are pretty pumped atm, thnx for the info.

There is also War thunder (worst name in a long time) at http://warthunder.com/en/registration/
No mechs and only planes so far but it may be interesting. If you like games like WoT and this game.

Sadly I think its Russian or something so you will get the usual Stalin-love.

Hawken looks like the ticket.. I don't care what I play, as long as it scratches the gaming itch. :)

I wish this game had more in common with the old Multiplayer Battletech game I used to play on AOL years ago. I loved the sequal and played the beta before the axed it. To this day I can't think of a good reason why they did that :)

I'm gonna get called a troll (again) but have any of you looked at PGI's track record?

Expecting this game to be GOTY quality would be like expecting Jack Black to win an Oscar or the Detroit Lions to come within swinging range of a super bowl.

I have high hopes for this game and enjoy it, but what were any of you expecting?

Yep. I soon realized that I had to lower my expectations. I'm having more fun now that I try not to expect much. I know it sounds cynical but at least I'm having fun.
