In the end, the mechwarrior fans alone may not be enough to keep the game alive, so the game must be good enough to keep the other 'giant robot' fans interested. After all, there are (or will undoubtably be) quite a few 'giant robot' games out there to compete with this one. I'm not one to support pandering to complainers or casuals (I use the term not in a derogatory way, but an understanding way), but I do recognise that if this is to succeed, the game must be accessible to as wide of a player base as possible.
Think about the game itself. The game in it's current state (As we can't accurately predict how things will be in the future), with all of it's current good points and bad points. This exact same game, with the same weapons, mechs, levels, bugs, community and developer quirks, but with no mention of Battletech of Mechwarrior. Better yet, pretend you've never heard of Mechwarrior. Of course, names, designs and such would have to be slightly different for intellectual property reasons. If the founders hadn't paid for a package, and no money had been spent by non-founders. Would you still be playing that game?
Of course, I understand that this game IS a Mechwarrior title, and that pretending otherwise changes nothing.
