What these two said.

Is it a punishable exploit? No.
Is it an unintentional side effect of the current matchmaker? Yes.
What's going to be done about it? Phase 3.

Last night my clan was using sync dropping, but we were using it so that we could fight 8vs8 within our own ranks... not to PUGstomp. (whenever our attempt to sync failed we fought another organized 8man team, not PUGs)

If you guys "fix" this in phase 3, will there still be a way for organized groups to set up "scrimmage" matches like we were trying to do? Maybe even ways to set up "hosted" matches that allow teams to pick their preferred maps and modes in addition to their opponent?

OK, so while it's not currently considered an actionable exploit, can people stop with the "devs think sync dropping is fine."

I mean, seriously, why would they implement a 4-man limit if they didn't expect people to actually limit their teams to 4 guys?

I really enjoyed getting them to say that ;)

Edit; I guess I was wrong. Sure got the other impression from different posts on this forum.

You do bring up a valid concern. I assume you weren't sync dropping 4 groups of 4 because that would require a ***** slap. Sync dropping 2 groups of 8 is fine imho. No pugs feelings will be hurt.

It's not punishable because there's no way to prove that a group is doing it on purpose.

Sync dropping 8s into the 8 man queue cannot be considered an exploit, because you're not exploiting the quirks of the match maker to circumvent a designed limitation. And, trying to fight another team you know will give you a hard time is actually really classy. Props, Pygar.

Any hints of what we can expect from Phase 3?

Will large drop groupd still be limited to 8? Will there be an in-between 4-8?

p.s. Do you drop as Paul Inouye, or is there a copycat with your handle in game?

I really like that Paul comes on the forum and gives lost of no BS direct answers to issues. That kind of dev involvement and directness of answer gives me confidence this game will continue to get better and when new features cause issues a reasonable resolution will eventually be reached.

Trying to Synch drop two groups of 4 is clearly just stupid now that we have 8man drops. If you are doing that you are lame.

However if you only have 6 people on, you cant do 8mans. 2 teams of 3 dropping at the same time, sometimes fighting each other, sometimes getting on the same team, sometimes not in the same battle. The objective is to have fun playing together (with or against), not to grief people who dont have friends. Cant be anything wrong with that, right?

Winning is griefing? I'm not condoning it, but when you are restricted to dropping with 4 or less and you have 7 on from your group...what else is there to do?

More team controls would help. Pinging the minimap for help. QuickCalls for designating targets and who you are focusing on. Ability to drag movement lines on the battlemap, with objectives etc..

Nothing is going to help against a well organised team...even if you are running 8 man groups.

I played in an 8man against Paul. He was using same name on forum but I'm sure the devs have multiple accounts so they can play incognito without being targeted every game. ;)

Peeing in your Pants is not Punishable, but if you did it in a Public area, it would likely not be seen as fine.

Or as Paul so succinctly put it. "Wow"

Split up into two groups and not sync-drop. Find an 8th in the public TS server. 4 mans are so easy-mode in PUG games usually I'm just chatting with my clan mates about random crap anyways.

If you often pee your pants in public I guarantee that there will be a punishment.

Sync dropping is what a group does when they are afraid to face actual competition in an 8 man match. Basically, these "skilled players" form 2 groups and then count down to launch at the same time. The intent is that they both show up in the same match on the same team. It allows them to steamroll pugs.
