Ya know... there's a reason they have 4-player queues, and 8-player queues.

And I will say that, like others have said, there are things you can get away with and not get administratively punished for, like walking up to people and saying they have an ugly face, in your opinion. Sure, you won't get in trouble, but you will be looked-upon as lesser company when you repeatedly break the Game's usage guidelines, just the same as a person who violates society's politeness guidelines.

As gamy as it is I see why people are doing it, people complain about ECM and PGIs stair step routine of introducing and balancing tech.. We do sync 8v8 matches some times as inter unit scrimmages.

What these two said.

Is it a punishable exploit? No.
Is it an unintentional side effect of the current matchmaker? Yes.
What's going to be done about it? Phase 3.

Clarification FTW

So the run hot or die tourney is against the rules, and should be frowned upon???

You shouldn't be able to pick the 8 man group you fight against, correct?

Yes but sync dropping 8s does not give you any advantage. It simply gives you a chance to face your fellow merc mates in battle. There is nothing wrong with 8 man sync drops. On the other hand 4 man sync drops are done to game the system for an advantage. There is something wrong with that.

Quoted for truth. Stop bringing it up now.

Sync dropping is what a group does when they are afraid to face actual competition in an 8 man match. Basically, these "skilled players" form 2 groups and then count down to launch at the same time. The intent is that they both show up in the same match on the same team. It allows them to steamroll pugs.
Thats a very specific and biased definition. What about the group of 5 that "synch-drops" as a 2 and a 3 with the intent to have fun together, not even caring if its with or against each other?

It seems to me that if the matchmaker tended to put teams against each other instead of on the same side this wouldnt be an issue at all? Or is there something I dont understand going on?

IMHO you should not be sync dropping if it has the potential to put more than 4 men on one team. It doesn't matter if its 5, 6, 7 or 8. Four man teams have a huge advantage as it is now and it only gets larger with each extra member you add. Your fun should not be at the expense of the fun of others.

So sync dropping is fine then?

No, Sync dropping is not "fine", it just won't get your account banned. There's a big distance between "fine" and "fined". It looks more like 'document it and if it is really the huge problem everyone says it is, action might be taken.'

Yet just today, a bunch of people have made posts saying their clan does sync drops when they don't have a full 8.

It happens right now, 8 people syncing to drop together as 2 groups of 4 premades so they can PUGstomp, and it's not ALL that rare nor is it all that hard to prove. I'm pugging solo atm but I'm on the ComStar TS3's and I can see the groups..and I can see the people doing the sync'd 4x2 drops, so can you and everyone else.

Is it allowed? No it's not, the system specifically prohibits 8 man premade teams from dropping in PUGs, restricting that to 4 man premade teams only. So the people gaming the system to do this know they are exploiting an issue with the current matchmaking system, they have to actually work to make it happen, it's not an accidental thing that happens once in a while after all.

Paul has come out and said it's not what they want to happen, the system is designed to keep 8 man premade teams only facing other 8 man premade teams, this is a loophole and it's not working as intended or designed. He also said you won't be punished for it by PGI.

The COMMUNITY however..we are far more likely to punish you for doing this however. You are the high school seniors who go over to the elementary school and bully the kids and make it seem like you are badasses. We all know what you really are even through forum rules prohibit me from stating it openly, and we will treat you accordingly now and in the future. I've already got a list of people doing this so I know who NOT to recruit for SRM and people we won't work with as a unit. I know I'm not the only XO keeping such a list.

So you little bullies keep on gaming the system, the more asshats we find now, the better, quiaff?

Does this mean that we all agree that PUGs consist of inferior players?

No. It means that we all agree that comms make you more effective in battle and that a higher percentage of pugs are newbies.

i don't like paul's tone in that post. professionals should be held to a higher standard

I prefer it when game developers speak to us like they're human beings rather than corporate suits. If it means they sometimes come across a bit short sometimes and seem annoyed that's more than fine with me - often I'm annoyed at the same things being posted.
