Anyway, I was thinking about buying something fun in this game, but what happens when the game is actually released? Will hundreds of dollars worth of stuff be lost forever?

Ive been a fan of the mechwarrior series ever since I got MW2 bundled with a rage 3dfx card for my old IBM Aptiva computer, it looked like this.
The opening cinematic was the best CGI I had seen at that point.
I liked outfitting my mech with 8 weak machineguns and rip enemies apart from close range, or snipe with as many gaus rifles as my mech could carry.
Im gonna try this game when I get home, I used to love World of Tanks until I realized that game is not skill based but lottery based (RNG determines winner).
Hopefully MW:O is more challenging.
Thanks for the reply, I will download and try this out later, cant wait =)

they should be able to restore any GXP you lost, especially if it happened as recently as the last patch
now, if you lost it in the patch going from closed to open beta you will not get that back as that was the last reset done by the devs

no, its still beta... says so on the little picture at the top, and all throughout the game...
beta is defined by the developers and no one else

I would like to hang a cow sign on every bull in a paddock full of bulls, then ask you to milk them.

but cows dont have developers and as such are defined by science... as cows, not bulls...
if you want to take that a bit further just take a look at MWO
it claims to be beta and in fact plays like one
There are some broken mechanics that developers are working on, theyre constantly monitoring customer feedback and making improvements to the game
They have plans in place to flesh out missing gameplay mechanics as well a community interaction and combat mechanics
MWO is a basic shooter right now, much less than what is planned
The game has flaws and they are working to correct them
They offer the game as free to play and are now allowing anyone to play as part of an open beta project
I dont understand how anyone can even conceivably consider this a fully completed game... its preposterous!

PGI apologists are so damn funny. It's like "Words? Words don't have definitions, it's whatever PGI says they mean!".

You found the game, or were invited to it. It said in the email, "You are invited to play in the Mechwarrior Open Beta" or, you clicked on a link that took you to a page that said MechWarrior Online Beta. You downloaded this game, with the mindset that "This is a beta". You played for a bit and then came to the conclusion "This game is hardly complete. This ISN'T a BETA!!!"
How? Just how? Amazing.

There's actually not an argument. You can't have an argument over a fact. Words have definitions.
It's like saying two people are arguing over what an aardvark is. They aren't; one person knows what an aardvark is, and the other is holding up an armadillo and saying "Look! It's an aardvark".

http://dictionary.re...browse/beta?s=t
beta
be·ta [bey-tuh or, esp. British, bee-] Show IPA
noun
1.
the second letter of the greek alphabet (β, .
2.
the consonant sound represented by this letter.
3.
( initial capital letter ) Astronomy . a star that is usually the second brightest of a constellation: The second brightest star in Taurus is Beta Tauri.
4.
Chemistry .
a.
one of the possible positions of an atom or group in a compound.
b.
one of two or more isomeric compounds.
5.
the second of any series, as in chemistry or physics.
6.
Also called beta coefficient, beta line. Stock Exchange. an arbitrary measure of the volatility of a given stock using an index of the volatility of the market as a whole: A beta of 1.1 indicates a stock that is 10 percent more volatile than the market.
7.
( initial capital letter ) Trademark. a brand of tape format for VCR tape, incompatible with other formats. Compare VHS.
8.
Chiefly British . a grade showing that a student is in the middle or second of three scholastic sections in a class. Compare alpha ( def 7 ) , gamma ( def 9 ) .
Now, when taking the slang definition into consideration is says this:
Slang Dictionary
beta
/bay't*/, /be't*/ or (Commonwealth) /bee't*/ n.
1. Mostly working, but still under test; usu. used with `in': `in beta'. In the Real World, systems (hardware or software) software often go through two stages of release testing: Alpha (in-house) and Beta (out-house?). Beta releases are generally made to a group of lucky (or unlucky) trusted customers.
2. Anything that is new and experimental. "His girlfriend is in beta" means that he is still testing for compatibility and reserving judgment.
3. Flaky; dubious; suspect (since beta software is notoriously buggy).
So, as a beta is considered mostly working but still under test, how is MWO not a beta?
care to explain how the definition is wrong and youre right?

you sure that wasnt closed beta? there was a reset going to open beta and your MC was refunded. Your a founder so its clear you were playing before open beta.
PGI's use of the "open beta" phrase is certainly stretching its meaning. A beta is something you test, not something you pay to play. The current state of the game and its payment model is identical to a released F2P game so its really just lip service.
The final reset was the end of the player testing cycle more or less, unless you consider every MMO in existence to be in "open beta" because they are continually releasing new content that is "untested" by players.
