Hello,

If you haven't studied the Drop Team demo - you should:

http://www.battlefro...sk=blogcategory

One of the best elements was the ability to control infantry. The player spawned with a squad.

The neat thing is that the AI copied everything the player did:

- If you engaged jetpacks - they would.

- If you went prone, they'd join you.

- If you opened fire on a tank - so would they.

A slight delay in the AI mimickery kept it from feeling forced. The AI infantry amplified the player's firepower (when the player opened up on a target) ...and the player would automatically switch to another member of his squad if he died.

So, there you have it. Infantry/Elementals:

- That behave intelligently in multiplayer (as they mime the player)

- That can stand up to larger enemies (without using a 'rock-paper-sizzors' dynamic)

Do you really want to be playing an infantry squad leader when you could be controlling a gigantic robot? Seriously?! ;)

Good luck with the infantry keeping up with you at 50 MPH.

With more experience in this game - I can see why it would be a pain to program.

However - the answer is yes. Try the Dropteam demo. The infantry go 1/6th the speed of the vehicles but it is tremendously interesting to play them.

In Battletech you have Battle Armour which can go anywhere from 10-50 kph. So you'd be going about half as fast as the slower heavy/assault mechs and would arrive to the battlefield in a timely way (even without creating special spawn points).

I'm just saying - try the demo before you judge. The gameplay is enthralling.
