ECM needs to have a usage penalty, and a strong one at that. It provides teams with a major advantage in matches so there should be a major penalty for its use Possible penalties could be:

- Limited time usage for ECM (an ECM ammo of sorts, similar to the heat build up penalty that was suggested earlier in this thread).
- When in the ECM bubble missile locks cannot be attained by anyone, friend or foe (which seems more realistic from a real world standpoint).
- If weapons are discharged from within the ECM bubble that mech is no longer cloaked and can be seen on radar, for a period of time perhaps.
- The prevention of missile locks can only be applied to a single mech at a time, which would have to be locked onto with ECM as a kind of weapons lock jammer.
- The effects of ECM only apply when moving at slow speeds (say under 50 kph).

ECM needs to be nerf tweaked. Should it be removed while this is happening? I don't care as long as it happens :)

Voted no to disabling ECM. It's fine, and no I do not have any ECM mechs.

lol wow 147 people want to keep sync dropping. I guess that should be too surprising really.

Also ECM should not be removed while its being tested lol. The meta around it is still developing mostly, its too soon to be going for kneejerk reactions.

Yet another post about ecm and balance crying. Can someone actually put a legitimate post about something useful in this forum for once? Humans adapt to things. Cold weather? Put lot of clothes on. Too hot? Take them off. Ecm in game? Use lasers and ballistics. Simple as that. It dont take much brain power to adapt to changing dynamics of the game.

Your going to defend an unbalanced tool?..seriousley??

well i dont complain to much about Ecm..knowing that this is beta and they HAVE! to test it before balancing..but i really have to complain about some guys like you..
The Main reason for an Beta is to implement and TEST somthing..so feedback is particularly important (not whining and trolling)
But comming to this Forum and write somthing like this--> Humans adapt to things. Cold weather? Put lot of clothes on. Too hot? Take them off. Ecm in game? Use lasers and ballistics. Simple as that. It dont take much brain power to adapt to changing dynamics of the game.

Makes me just an bit angry because it makes NO Sense!..whats this about..dont say anything ..just leave it behind and use somthing else?..and then..next patch lasers are nerfed..oh well ive got Balistiks left..no Problem huh?...sorry but if yout dont have to say anything important..it would be better to say nothing (just my oppinion)

Right, I'm sure that ECM is the source of this. It couldn't be the complete lack of any meaningful content over the past 3-4 months. Not at all.

EDIT: Also, this thread sucks.

I don't think that the numbers are as bad as people think. I don't recognize most of the names I see on this page, if any. We know that most people that play the game will never visit the forums. And if numbers are down, which we have no real proof of, it's not necessarily due to a broken "this" or "that" feature. It could be that a lot of people are viewing the game as it's supposed to be viewed. As a beta. They DL, check it out, maybe play a few weeks, and then put it aside until a new patch arrives. In the mean time, they play other games. I'm playing a couple of other games myself, though I am pretty dedicated to Mechwarrior. And I'm a fanboy. So someone that isn't as passionate surely isn't going to stick around for a couple of maps, a few mechs, and what is considered "a buggy mess" when compared to fully released games elsewhere. I understand the fear of a small player base, but I don't think we're even at the point where we can say what the player base size will be.

What if a year from now, Community Warfare is present, money is rolling into PGI, who is in turn sinking the money into more features and advertising, and you are seeing commercials for it like WoT's, and a trio of blockbuster movies are releasing that take us from the third secession to the clan invasion, and it's raining gumdrops all across the land (the last two may just be wishes of mine). We may still see a rise in players if some things align. The game is already really good. Forums are known to be full of people upset because the game has slighted them in some way, or with people that are completely dedicated to the IP. So doom and gloom threads are gonna happen. But I think it's too soon to think about the number of players.

TLTR;

I like ECM the way it is though I'm sure it will be adjusted some (if not a whole lot) before release (which is forever away).

I don't care about the 8 man or 4 man thing because I PUG and make kills regardless most of the time. (Always do high damage)

ECM is fine, though it could use some minor tweaking. It's the stupidity of the player-base that is the primary issue. One of the borderline-cognizant makes an asinine, logically incomprehensible thread and it gets parroted endlessly by the droves of morons that are incapable of adapting to incredibly simple gameplay changes.

Quit whining about ECM. Change your damn weapons if you've become useless on the battlefield.

In my opinion, ECM limits the unskilled players ability, which i like a lot!

Please please please add a new Game mode that doesnt Include capture.

The only problem I see with ECM is the fact that it was supposed to open up a variety of new tactics, but it didnt. It only created one. Follow the ECM to cap. period.

I dont know about the rest of you ,but, i log in to this game for the combat. I am a MECHWARRIOR not a coward that sneaks around avoiding combat so I can get the win.

I had to stop playing to find a thread on this to support because i just ran 10 matches in a row that involved little to no combat. I have started refusing to help capture, I would rather face all 8 of my opponants alone and die like a WARRIOR than sneak around like some cowardly Freebirth !!!

But seriously, ECM's are the problem, and I fully support their suspension until a game mode is introduced that doesnt cater to that style of play
THIS! 80% of games involve sneaking around to base; the team with the least disconnects or afk burning the base faster. The other 20% involves rushing to middle of map and sitting, waiting for a non-ECM enemy to poke his head over the ridge. Rinse and repeat. How anyone can call this fun or rewarding is beyond me.

ECM is a large infected band-aid that needs to be changed out. Instead of hiding the issues, fix them. The issues are:
  • EZ mode radar - cut the range down (possibly up to half)
  • LRMs - the listed above reduction in radar range would help greatly, also increase AMS efficiency.
  • SSRM - increase lock-on time to about double; decrease BAP lock-on speed to current one
Finally, as for ECM, remove its cloaking ability. This would allow LRMs to lock-on as before, however, LRMs will be cut back from radar range reduction. Instead limit all ECM abilities to within its 180m bubble. The cloaking ability can be added later on through the combination of stealth armor technology. These changes will in turn fix the pre-ECM issues, as well as bringing things closer to canon.

i found the hitch. We have guardian ECM acting as Angel ECM. Give us both pieces of equipment or just give us Angle ECMs.
Angel ECM blocks Streaks Guardian does not. there is a weight difference between the two devices so fix this please.
Thanks

Until they correct loadouts ECM is a helluva lot better then what we had before. It's nice to be able to actually play mechwarrior.

haven't played this game for a week or two but I liked ecm when it first arrived as it seemed balanced but now it just seems to be swarms of ravens going about with ecm's, skilled talk really doesn't come into it if your surrounded by the things you can only shoot at one at a time! just seems like its created a different kind of imbalance, not sure what the solution is but it needs some work that's for sure.

I don't think disabling a feature thats currently being tested is the right way to test it. It's live so that they can collect data on it and adjust it accordingly in the next patch if they feel it's necessary.
PGI wouldn't have released ECM if their in house testing showed it to be broken/not working as intended. They said from the get go that it would be a major game changer.

I don't play 8 mans so I can't really comment there too much. I can only speculate that giving the players the freedom to manage their own group sizes was too much for some to handle based on forum posts I see.

I'm ok with losing in pugs if the other team is far more organised than mine. If it bothered me that much I would have joined a group a long time ago. This 4+4 group sync dropping thats going on is not really in the spirit of the game if you ask me. I suppose limiting to 1 group per team in pug games would stop that. I don't know how it would affect matchmaking though as I don't have the figures on how many people drop as a 2-4 man team compared to the number of people dropping solo.

So in short, don't disable features that are being tested, I abstain from 8 man vote due to lack of knowledge on my part, limiting groups per pug is a good short term fix if it won't drastically effect the speed at which I can get into a game.

Edit: It won't let me vote on just two of the questions, I have to answer all 3, so I'm going to vote no on weight limits in 8 man.

ECM is fine. It brought tactics into MWO - this was well needed, it devolved into stupid melees before.

I agree with the rest.

Wait, wait, wait. Are you saying that the current implementation of ECM doesn't cause games to devolve into stupid melees now? Because that has not been my experience, especially on 8v8s. You either sneak to the base and/or close to 300 meters and brawl. Prior the patch, I felt that there was a much greater balance of tactics and diversity in weapons/chassis. Now, there's one tactic and a handful of chassis that are viable in 8v8s.
