You do realize that using any email with the name of anything is right up there with dictionary@domain emails. If you use any email that is easily identified by a game, character, etc you will get SPAM. I'm surprised you haven't gotten SPAM earlier honestly.

I've had this domain for 12 years, and used it on Usenet. The amount of spam I get would choke a camel - I think I peaked at abut 5000 spam messages a *day*. I don't care about that.

The concern I have is that the statement about
"At no time were any databases containing personal information compromised. This includes e-mails and passwords."
is demonstrably false, as I got spam to a one-off email address that was only ever registered in the PGI system, and never was logged in or used in the forums.

Just wanted to mention, there are other people, like me, who didn't get those emails to their mailaccounts. Mine is at yahoo and i checked it a moment ago (including spam folder).

Which makes me wonder, why someone stealing a load of emails from a forum sends his spam only to certain accounts, not even certain providers but only some accounts at the same provider. Maybe he had limited time or something ... don't know. :)

Edit: Are you using the .com yahoo or something different? I think my mail account is registered with yahoo.de ...

same here, only not from Spain, but from the Netherlands. (both of which are EU, in case you have the misfortune of not knowing this through some rough topography)

It has been a constant irritant for the last week. It pops up randomly, often once logging into the forums, but sometimes not until I've viewed a few messages.

Still not seeing this, in Chrome, Firefox or IE.

Still can't figure out why it's only occurring for some (ie im still thinking it's local based).

An option to test, would be to save your personal stuff, passwords and the like, uninstall your browser.
Ensure you use a registry cleaner.
And remove the browser data in the apps data (hidden folder).

Reinstall and see if it still occurs.

The Mechwarrior franchise has always drawn people who are intelligent and mostly computer literate. That means that almost everyone here, myself included, is smart enough to know how all the various types of malicious software work. That being said there are a few things that I always do whenever my machine starts acting up.

Step 1: Reboot the machine and go into "Safe Mode" to load only essential drivers and OS Software.
Step 2: Run a full scan of all the HDDs, SSDs, and Flash Drives that are ever connected to the computer with Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast antivirus.
Step 3: After the AV Scan is complete run a full scan of all drives with Malwarebytes. Make sure to remove all the threats it uncovers. Quarantine folders are only semi-effective.
Step 4: Run Pyriform's CCleaner to remove all the debris and garbage that most Malicious software loves to leave behind in all the folders you never look in.
Step 5: Defrag and Fully Optimize all HDDs with Iobit's Smart Defrag 2. This will take a while. But it's a LOT better than the standard MS Defrag.
Step 6: Reboot normally and check for signs of any malicious software.

With ALL of the above steps, make sure that one process is complete before you start the next. Trying to run full scans in more than one application at a time can cause some major freezing and crashing issues when the apps start fighting over HDD access, RAM, and CPU time.

Hope it helps!

I still get the warning on my desktop using Firefox (haven't installed Chrome yet) but my laptop using Firefox, Chrome or IE does not produce the warning so I'm inclined to agree with McKenna that it's localized.

With what browser? Browsers like FIrefox do not store malware warnings in their cache, its in a separate file.

Yeah, It's pretty annoying to check the forums everyday and be greeted with this message. (Using FF).

C'mon, It's been going on long enough has It not?

I'm still getting this warning. PGI, come on. Fix this ASAP or you're going to lose a lot of potential players who come here and get scared away.
