My hardware is good enough, but I'm running XP and it says the minimum required OS is Windows Vista...this has to be a lie right? That's the only problem listed as being unable to run.

The devs have stated and confirmed it will run on XP, so you should have no probs if your hardware meets specs.
As for win 8, it will probaly work, but you just have to try, plus you could ask a dev about that as well.

I'll have to buy a whole new motherboard to get the socket to then upgrade the CPU, which also means another copy of Windows I am stuck getting too.

Why would you need to buy another copy of windows?

If its an OEM copy of windows, its a pain in the butt to activate on new hardware, but if its a retail version he should have no probs, unless hes done lots of re-installs lately.

P.S, cheers to the mods for stickying this, but i didhave a job to find it to start with as i didnt relise it had been moved...........lol

Ah, I thought I've read a few times that all you need to do is call MS support and they'll re/activate your key no problem.

As far as the cost, if you know anyone with a ".edu" email address you can get a copy of Win7 pro for like 60$ via their student discount website. Though usually at the beginning of each semester they lower the price to $29.99 for a couple weeks. That's how i got mine :P

Thank you, information overload, Warning! Auto-shut down in progress!... but how do I make it work?, specifically my 20 year old Microsoft Thrustmaster Force Feedback II. I have, in the mechlab, found the pulldown under options, and pulled up the mapping screen, selected the function. hit/ input the button, it went in, but then was deleted when I went to the next function. Any help?

Great read. Thanks so much for the info and opinions presented.

Definitely explained some things to me and helped prepare me for when my little Logitech fails, if it ever does.

It claims I don't meet the minimum requirements... but my laptop can handle Skyrim on high... :D I would have thought that would mean I could at least run this game.

Here's what it came up with:

Reccomended:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

Intel Core i5-2500 (3.3 GHz)

8192 MB

Minimum
Specifications

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66 GHz)

4096 MB

Your System
Specifications

NVIDIA GeForce GT 520MX

Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor

4096 MB

I'm pretty sure my graphics is 2GB. I know I'm using a laptop, but that shouldn't make that much of a difference for being able to at least run the game. EDIT: Hmmm... I may have been mistaken... It may only be 1GB, but I was led to believe it was 2GB, if that is the case I'm not to happy about that.... but anyway, the point still stands, I can run Skyrim, why can't I run this?

Is it one of the new AMD FX cpu's? if so a lot of sites like yougamers and system requirement labs havent updated to allow for the new cpu's, same as they do recognise windows 8 yet, as its only out a trial.

I know the Microsoft Sidewinder FFB2 is not commercially available any more but it is still possible to pick them up second hand....it's one of the better 'twist-sticks' and has FFB

I have always piloted mechs with a twist stick joystick (twist for torso twist) but i'm aware that many believe they can have more control with a combination of keyboard and mouse....I guess I will have to wait until i'm able to play to decide which is better

That's the one I got, I saved it all these years, but I can't get it to work with MWO, I've followed threads to a page filled with what looks like line code, support has sent me links, to resolve the multi axis issue, re-set, calibrate, and so on, but everytime I go into the mech lab, OPTIONS>CUSTOMISE, it brings up the familiar screen, it accepts all the button to functions, but in game it goes senile and forgets. Yes I know this isn't the place to post this, but this guy seems to know what he's talking about, and is willing to give up the info!

I have an old Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2, which is about 12 years old. I dug it up out of storage and dusted it off thinking that there would be no way it would work with MWO.

Lol was I ever wrong, it's works perfectly. All I had to do was run the WIN7 calibration app in the device settings, reconfigure a few of the game control settings and away it went as good as it did when I stopped palying MWM 8 years ago. No need for fancy and expensive joysticks, just a good old fashioned reliable Microsoft Joystick, and only cost me about $20 second hand about 10 years ago.

Cheers and I hope you all enjoy playing MWO as much as I do.

My MS TM FFB II still works, as well, (according to the calibration tab) and it's 20 years old! Now if I can only get it to work in game.
