say you've had enough of a mech and you want to replace it. you may be done with it but someone else may want it...
there should be an option to put it up for sale with other members, like ebay, you put it up and people can bid on it or buy it outright. this will allow for new members to get there hand's on cheap mechs and for people to make some money off of their old "toys".

when it comes up with the details of said mech there should be stuff like how many battles it has been in and % victories. if it has been cored and if so how many times. the amount of "deaths" and kills. the amount needed to repair if after purchase. weapons currently installed and armour details. owner/previous owners. and so on. this way the buyers will know if it is a good set up and if they are getting their money's worth.

what do you think?

If this was a subscription game, certainly. But, as a micropayment title, buying mechs will be a big part of the funding going into PGI

Obviously people can get mechs for free by grinding, but then the grind itself acts as a bit of leverage to entice people into taking a shortcut and paying $$$ for a new mech. Trading, selling, or auctioning is going to take money right out of the developer's/publisher's pockets.

Mechs will be bought with both. There is no distinction between a mech bought with Cbills and one bought with MC.

Player-run market for mechs will provide them at a cheaper rate than the C-bill cost you need to grind (if the player-sold cost were higher, then one would just buy a new stock mech with Cbills, and look up good custom loadout on google)

It would undermine PGI being able to sell mechs for cash.

I think that IF i no longer need a Mech or weapon, and I have a dedicated group of friends that I always play with... whats the problem with giving them my hand downs. Or if you want to make a few c-bills (not real money) whats wrong with having an online player sort of black market where you can bundle weapons or put up an unused mech fully equipped that someone would not be otherwiase be able to buy standard from the C-store?

If this was a full price boxed title, or a subscription-based game, trading or secondary market would be a great idea. The cost of producing the game would be covered by the up-front cost of the game, or by monthly subs.

MWO is neither of those things.

Look at League of Legends as an example, if they let you give away Champions, or sell them for less than Riot sells them, that line of cash flow for the company would dry up.

Weapons are cheap compared to a mech chassis, bundles of weapons or a 'loaded' mech is not necessary at all. Help your friends by queuing with them, help them win, they'll earn more Cbills to buy stuff with. Help them make good loadouts. Give them money to buy a new mech... But selling mechs at a discount or giving them away isn't going to fit the microtransaction model for MWO.

I think a Market place would be great. Just C-bills though for players. I have friends that don't have a way to do micro transactions, I could buy the mech then sale to them for C-bills. Or if I had a tricked out Mech that I just dont use anymore why not have A market where I could put it up for sale so newer players could by it.

A market sounds good for players, but it's bad for the microtransactions that will be required to keep the game afloat.

Welcome to forum

its pointless to talk about this when its not possible, and pyriel you don't need to pay in this game to get stuff only thing you need to do is play.

You'll be able to get every mech, every variant, and every weapon for free, if you're patient.

Any cash-only items will be cosmetic (and possibly boosters to gain XP faster.)

My guess is also that all things will be made available in MW:O, it will just be up to the player if she/he wants to take the fast lane and pay real cash (that is transferred to C-bills) or to take the stony, more challenging path to glory without paying anything.

The only way I could see a mech market system being established in a F2P game is, if the developers will receive a substantial commission for every transaction and this would render it less worhtwhile for the player to do business and more complicated for the developers in terms of implementation. Personally, I would see such a feature - if it will ever see the light of day - as non-essential and I think there are many other features that folks would like to see being included in the game than a mech market system. Having Solaris VII bets or less risky ComStar investments implemented instead to boost your C-bills account, as suggested in other threads, would be more to my liking, creating more of an intriguing BattleTech atmosphere.

MWO doesn't have any grinding, and thank the freaking Lord for it being that way.

I would rather have mechs come out in pairs. You pick the one you want for free, the other you have to pay 10$ for.

New Mechs will cost millions of Cbills. It will take some time to acquire a large number of mechs and variants, plus you'll need to purchase weapons, equipment, and modules. Of course, you only really need one solid mech built to suit your playstyle, but I personally will want to have several different mechs to play with. Acquiring all the variants (not all the canon variants, but all variants included in MWO) will be required to unlock the highest tier of XP skills (see dev blog 4)

Acquiring lots of mechs will be possible, but it'll take time (or money). Hopefully we'll all be too busy having fun piloting our mechs that the grind doesn't ever feel like a chore :P

Some kind of auction is welcomed & PGI can profit on it
Idea is "someone has to buy that premium item anyway, why prevent trading?"

Trading mechs?
Well if mechs will be restricted to factions, it would be only place where u can buy foreign or rare mechs

I thought your idea could be cool if you pretended there was a story behind your mech or something, but stats like kills and deaths behind a specific mech would never be about "getting [your] money's worth," since repairing your mech will bring it up to a like-new condition and you'll repair after every game, anyway.

I voted no, not because i dont like the idea, but because i dont think it would be good for the company, and thus the game.

As others have mentioned skipping the c-bill grind will be a large factor in people dropping real cash on mechs (remember that mechs have varients that will probably have to be bought sperately) and weapons. Not only that but this opens up selling mech bay slots. Lets say you start the game with 4 slots (enough for one per tonnage). You either can sell the mechs for some c-bills OR you can drop a couple bucks and buy 4 more slots and keep your mechs just in case you want to use them later.

I however really really like your idea on mech stats.
