Seriously what is up with this mech? How do you most reasonably build it?

No fancy upgrades, just Endo-Steel Structure and kept basic heat sinks.
Armor as much as I could.
Well atleast it kinda works and it's fun to shoot bigger mechs and see their arm drop off.
Not a real viable build but not that bad either.
Caustic Valley is my favorite map with 4X, just shoot AC/5 as long as you can, then do like other lights, circle and spam streak and lasers.
2X is the real underdog imo, but with 1xLarge Laser, 2xMedium Laser and 1xStreak it's actually not that bad at all.

That build doesnt make any sense, that weapon combination is some seriously useless stuff. 2 machine guns while running slower than the other scouts? Whats the use of the machine guns then? Hoping you'll find a complete beginner who lets you stand in their back all the time so you can actually effectively use your machine guns? And then there's a ERPPC, why..? So that when combat actually starts and youll be forced to run away (because any other mech ingame will easily take you in a duel, and in teamfights your a free kill to anyone who is only slightly skilled) you can now stand on range dealing 0,00001 DPS?
TLDR
-Machines guns arent usefull when your that slow, especially if your not fully speccing close range.
-Adding in a long range weapon is ridiculously useless.
-Too low dps and armor relative to speed to actually be present in teamfights.
This thing is just useless.

People nowadays really lacks creative thinking. There was once a Raven build named "half a Gausspult". Yes, a Raven carrying a Gauss.
Why would you go head to head against other lights? You don't! You let your friends do the job. Why would you duel with anyone with this build? Can you duel an Atlas with, say, even a Cicada? You don't! What is PPC good for? Suppressing enemy LRMboats! You hop up, pop a few shots, you go low and cool down, repeat. Even in later game, you can still run around the battlefield and pick the enemy of your choice, stop, "BAM!" 10 damage in the back, run away, repeat. See?
Also the MG is getting a buff, dealing significant damage on structure. An extremely efficient late game finish-him weapon.

It is not a matter of "lack of creativity", it is a matter of having a somewhat slightly more serious aproach to the game and assuming your not always playing against people with an IQ below 60. Everything you describe is so awfully ineffective its laughable. Sure you might have seen it work...., but id like to have a mech that is still usefull when the enemies are above the age of 10.

I used 245XL, Endo, max JJ, 2x LL, strip a little armor off the left side, and the rest in DHS. Worked just fine. Your job isn't going to be dueling other lights, it's going to be using your mobility to get optimal firing positions on the main fight as it happens, then applying those 2 LL to whatever is primary for the duration of the fight. You are typically far enough away to avoid attention, fast enough to make it back to the pack if a light wants to duel you, and the jumpjets + arm mounted weapons give you the ability to fly all over the place while still applying damage. I liked it so much that I kept the 4X after mastering the 3L.

I'm absolutely serious about this build. This is as much as DPS you can get while maintaining the maximum speed possible. You're the one asking for help, you think I'm not serious? Not my problem.

This is the whole problem with the 4X. Any opponent light who isnt a complete noob will focus you as their first target. You dont have the power to kill them, you wont have the speed to run away from them...., and even IF they decide to not focus you, you deal less DPS then your other team members because of the fact that your a light. (infact, even the lights that are faster than you have better hard points which allows them to deal more damage)

I appreciate the fact that you are trying to help but your build kinda proves what i said in the OP. You get killed by lights, your not as good vs heavies etc due to the fact that your slower than a normal light, and due to the fact that your hardpoints arent good for a light (not enough close range damage), and on long range you deal crap damage due to the fact that you are a light. Sure you might be abled to get a few shots of against missile boats and then hide behind an object, but another mech (gaussapult for example) would be abled to do that 10 times more effective.
Everything the 4X can do can be done much much more effetively by other mechs, and since the 4X is a light..., you cant really use it as an allrounder either, it gets ***** in duel, it gets ***** in the open, it gets ***** on long range, it cant scout, it cant do anything...

i dont think anyone is saying it's not a bad mech. it's just a question of being the crapmech it is, what can you do to actually make it useful. so for me i put on a AC20, a couple MLs, and then I have a sneaky big-mech hunter that travels with the main group (hopefully under ECM from a DDC). and if no one shoots at me, which they usually dont because people like to shoot bigger mechs, then i'm pumping out a lot of pinpoint damage.
its useless in a scout role, so fire support is the only thing I can see it doing kinda well as long as you don't get ***** by lights with streaks

The heat is managable and I can do well as anti-light support and the AC/2 gives me a longer range option without reducing my short range DPS. I can consistently get 300 - 400 damage per match with this build if I pick my opportunities carefully and keep moving. Running escort for heavies and assaults works really well for me in this build.

10 DHS
ES
2 ML
2 MG (1 ton)
1 SRM6 (2 tons)
5 JJs
BAP
AMS (1 ton)
Max armour
Straight up escort mech. Hang with your buddies, spot enemy lights and scare them off if they try to attack your teammates, but don't pursue. If your team catches bigger mechs without support, feel free to hound him, then regroup with your team when he goes down.
Frack up anything that's weak or alone when you can, and spend the rest of the time humping the leg of the nearest friendly ECM Atlas.
