Renaming those things is not teh hard part, assembly is. As far as Powershell goes, I think it comes standard with Win, so... :D

What I would like to see is someone put up fixed models that I can use to 3D print them. I am working on it myself but I am not very good with 3D programs and I keep getting tons of errors and holes in the models. Come on somebody has to want to help a brother out here.

everyone who has made these models printable isn't allowed to put up the files because we are not allowed to distribute copyrighted material. unless PGI specificaly says so. which they have not.

That is strange as there are links in this thread that have the rigged models that people have made and have had no issues. I would think that as long as you are not charging anything for them or trying to pass them off as your work it would not be an issue. I wonder if we could get a message on if PGI is alright with that for personal/fan use only.

those are different they are mechs that have been ripped from the game with only had texture changes if anything. no mods. everyone already has those files except they are not rigged. these print models require alot more effort. and can potentially harm pgi and.or catalyst game labs if they were released to the masses

While (as Sentinel pointed out) I can't get you finished files, I can offer you this: http://www.netfabb.com/basic.php

netfabb Studio Basic is a handy app for fixing 3D meshes for 3D printing. The autorepair function picks up and fixes an awful lot of problems in meshes, significantly reducing the amount of time it takes to work on a mesh by hand. And it's free! (The professional version costs money, but basic is fully functional, just missing some advanced features like large file access)

I would think that rigged game ready models would be more of threat than models fixed for a 3D printing. Right now the cost and numbers of people who have printers are a very small number. Even with those who can do it your basic tabletop model will have not very much detail and those of a good size will cost quite a lot to produce.

Just be careful using Noesis for the DDS I have found on a few it stuffed up the Diffuse and Spec maps by missing pieces(Perhaps interpretating alpha wrong) in the conversion, that is where DDSViewer is handy to fixup the few that corrupted.


Except you have the entire 'Mech bay upside down.
The 'Mech should be suspended from the gantry, which in turn should ride on rail from the ceiling.

Thanks ;) I didnt think it looked quite right. I was trying to piece this one together just by looks without a decent reference. guess i got it horribly wrong.I'll have another crack at it again today :D

Assembly is actually extremely easy i can now do a mech in under 10mins down from an hour manually :D, It is probably a steep learning curve for the layman, but the gist is, the CDF file is your friend, some regular expressions to strip out useless crap, import to excel, create a formula to generated a python command and bobs your uncle. then you export the rig from the CHR file, spend another 10mins tweaking and parenting it then just play around with textures etc.
I have them all done with "basic rigging" but I probably wont upload anymore then i already have as I dont want to push any legal boundaries as pointed out. Now I am onto the Nonmech assets which take more time :unsure:

Doesn't matter. Eraser is correct in pointing that out. No one has been given the rights to redistribute game assets modified or otherwise. However, most game developers have a relaxed policy on using game assets for fan art as it's mutually beneficial.

But yeah any print me doctored assets might push buttons with bean counters you don't want pushed.

Ok seeing as i did it upside down last time :D This is a quick re render of a blackjack with the gantry around the right way :P Need to work on the textures and lighting etc plus a HEAP more props to drop in but whenever i get time but you get the gist.

Just wondering if anybody has discovered where the file is for the "Mech carrier" that is on alpine, that hold probably 3? mechs and has a destroyed atlas in it?

Objects\Environments\ice\ap_snowcat. There are 3 objects in there; the snowcat and the gantry are probably the ones you are looking for.

Worked on getting the snowcat assets out. It included the gantry and the tanker.

Thanks Heffay, Snowcat is the last thing i would have searched for :)

Spent a bit more time today on the Mechbay, done the gantries, the walkways, elevators and a few crates. Unsure what to do for the side walls, and what do do from the top of the shell wall to the celing panels, but I'll figure something out so long as it looks passable.. Once i finish those and drop in more "fluff" I'll work on the lighting and do a higher quality Atmosphereric render.

I'm having some trouble assembling the Mechs from parts in Blender. Right now, I'm just doing it by eye and hoping everything is close enough, but there has to be a better way than that. Maybe I'm missing something obvious?

Personally, I set up a dummy in the cryengine 3 SDK and then start adding parts directly into it until they match. I make the process shorter with the help of my brother (since I'm more into programming than 3D and art, that's more his thing and he navigates those programmes better than I do) by assembling only one leg (or any symmetrical parts) and the other being a mirrored copy done in Maya and also not bothering with putting rear parts into the right place as that is, again, a matter of 3-4 clicks in Maya.

I always pull it next to the dummy to see if they are exactly the same and so far, I've never been dissapointed. The whole process takes just under 1 hour and while certainly slower than just assembling the things by eye, it is definitely precise and with all those scales going on, I can't afford to make "close enough" mechs.
