Isn't it "Orionic," don't you think? A little tooooo "Orionic".... yeah I really do think...

*deep breath*

It's like PPCsssss... on caustic valley!
It's free re-arms... when you boat energy!
It's the scout's warning... that you just didn't see!

And who would've thought, it figures...

So this means that BattleMech 20 will be the Zeus. :D

I'd love the zeus, but I'm thinking they should fill in the tonnage holes if the pattern holds.

Bushwhacker would add more to the game (very low to the ground and a solid sniping mech).

We still need a 55,95.

Overall disappointing and not up to par with previous renditions IMO.

The huge cockpit makes this mech look more like a medium than a heavy...prefer the smaller view-ports of the original. (Blackjack suffers the same issue). Its too bad they decided to use the messed up crit chart instead of the artwork and fluff. This whole design feels way off scale and poorly proportioned somehow. Massive cockpit, massive lower arms for MLs and the legs appear to be stubby. The torso isn't long enough and the shoulders are off as well. This looks more like that CRAPPY resculpted Orion mini than the nearly perfect original Ral Partha mini.

Doesn't really look like the Orion I know and love, warts and all. Hopfully the actual in-game model will look better.

Scale needs to be addressed. In-game Stalker is laughably small, the Centurion is too big and now we've got another mech with a HUGE cockpit viewport when the originals had more realistic smaller viewports.

Hope the variants look better than this...at least there are plent of those. Please no ridiculous Kerensky hero type. That tetcon-garbage ruined some very cool Battletech history and lore.

FD...you raised the bar with your CBT (you made the Helios look good!) and MWO artwork, but enough with the HUGE cockpits already.

Interesting, the Orion I remember is more of a "man" mech with a discernable head/cockpit plus the launcher in the arm. Could there be a Orion II C in the pipeline as well?

The arm launcher was an issue of art and stats not matching. This was a problem for a lot of mechs when they were first introduced, as often the artist and the game developers didn't communicate much after the initial concept. I could name a half dozen mechs with similar problems if I wanted to.

Well, I was excited for about two seconds, then it hit me...

1. The Mech will be launched with cockpit hitbox issues. PGI will of course fix these issues after the boards light up with complaints.

2. The arm swing will be horrible, due to the AC barrel jutting out that far.

I'm not 100% sold on the artwork, either, which is a hard thing to say. FD has always done fantastic work, but this Orion just doesn't excite me very much.

imo fixed barrels like that on mechs shouldn't have horizontal arm swing at all. Just vertical arm and regular torso movement.

I could agree if the Mech in question has missing lower arm actuators, but if you played a Cataphract early before they reduced the arm swing to avoid clipping the AC barrel, you'll know where I'm coming from. When the clipping problem was fixed, they did nothing to offset the change, from what I can tell, by increasing torso twist range. Now you have a 70 ton Mech that has limited arm swing and limited torso twist range, which is sadly outclassed by the Catapult.

Oh well, we shall see in the coming months how it all shakes out.

hmm
2 missile LT
ballistic RT
energy RA & LA

baby atlas. meh

It will cause the hunchback to be outdated.... no massive shoulder for the ballistic slot = better mech.
(this of course assumes its a medium mech)

Honestly?

It's an upgraded, better looking orion, that still sticks to traditional orion attributes. That means it looks bland, boring, and like an orion. There's not a lot else he could do without completely redesigning it from the ground up.

Like they did for the 55 ton mech?

They have 5 lt, 5 med, 5 hvy and 4 assault so next is another assault Zeus or Banshee. IMO Zeus is a more iconic mech.

My thoughts on the Orion:

Pros: Great classic 'mech, I'm excited to see it in MWO!

Cons: Still not a Marauder.

One thing I would change: I like that the cockpit window is no longer the eyesockets with a bar in the middle, but I would make the cockpit windshield more like a rectangular window rather than a large faceplate. That thing looks like a big fragile target.

Like the original TRO3025 places the WSP-1A's SRM4 in the left leg when all the crits in that location should be taken up by jumpjets

It definitely isn't one of FD's better visual designs, but that doesn't mean it's bad!

I, for one, am extremely happy to see one of the best heavy mechs - and, coincidentally, one of my personal fav's :D - finally appear in MWO.

Well done team. Keep this up and you may get some money out of me.
