I don't know what it is.
But I am sure there is something.

i find it's too easy to take out the side torso sections. i have a Muromets and find just about every time i cop it it's either side torso. not sure if it's a bug or just a bad armour distribution.

I almost only pilot Cataphracts and never have noticed an issue with the armour

That's because the issue is virtually impossible to notice when you are piloting a phrac. You will notice it easier when you attack an enemy phrac.

I think they may be running into the same issue as the awesome where their profile is about as easy to hit as the broad side of a barn. It makes it a lot easier to keep damage on a specific torso section which can lead to being taken down faster.

You need to learn how to spread the damage and get a big enough engine so you can turn torso fast enough to spread it. The Cataphrach DOES have easy to focus fire sections if you dont maneuver well.

See

The cataphract has hitboxes that work properly, so it's just easy to take out sides compared to centurions or catapults, who have hitboxes that make a good 40%-90% of inbound damage just vanish.

need to get above 65 kph to use an XL engine. Your mech starts to grow a lag-shield at 65. Otherwise use the largest standard your loadout allows. Also when you do use an XL, put CASE in each side torso to lower the chance of an engine critical.

The key is a synergy in your build. If you are hit and run/range build, I highly recommend an XL. If you are getting in the brawl, stick with the standard. Experiment and you will figure out which works best. My cataphrachs are 50/50.

Thats the same, with a light (one laser) full armor "238", VS an Atlas with Ac20, lasers, SRMs (full armor "614") and the Atlas fires all it weapons hitting the Light many times, and the light just fires about 10 laser shots at the Atlas. Atlas goes down (explodes). This is noticable, a lot.

No there is not.

Protip: Go look at that tab for Armor. Now think about how many hits the 'default' armor loadout can take. Now look at another mech, say a heavy dragon.

Now think about the surface area of the Cata vs. Dragon's torso.

Your welcome.

Tell your friends about this great insight and stop making bad threads.

CTF is made of paper. No difference to use STD or XL-engine, it will always explode most easily of heavies.

If Cataphracts has an issue with their armor...
Then me Atlas armor must be completely defective.

Everyone keeps shooting out my giant AC20 torso.

Hm, lag shoting starts but i have not seen them taking less damage than expected opposite to Mechs above ~100kph.

As far as my experience with Phracts goes they can be devastating opponents and usually be not easy to take out though it may be that some setups develop an unexpected weakness to the durability of the Mech.

This and "machine guns are crit seekers" are the two most durable MWO urban legends.

Well, once my Cataphract is going 70-77 that XL engine is no longer a drawback as damage gets spread across the mech instead of hitting one area. Your mileage may vary, especially if you charge straight in on targets.
