I would simply prefer tournaments created by the makers of the game like world of tanks and, they set the runs for each different tournament. Of course 4 to 7 tournaments a week.

You can put a tonnage limit, it is constant with TT as I heard.

Or also, you could use a point limit as in Warhamer TT. The Chassis, weapons, ammo, armor, might even be the pilot's total experiance point with that mech. That gives you a pointage for every slot, and a total for the team.

Leagues were always done with tonnage limits. Dropships have tonnage limits. Tonnage limits are superior.

Yes, let's introduce a system that limits possible matchups even further, since it doesn't already sometimes take up to 5-10 mins to find a match in 8mans.

The playerbase isn't big enough to support this kind of thing, today for like 5 hours straight we've been playing the same 2 or 3 teams in 8mans over and over again.

Its not for lack of playerbase...its because of the EXTREME metabuilds in 8V8..

Change ECM, and you change 8 mans, simple as that.

You are playing the same two teams because all the people excited for eight mans gave up when they realized that they could only bring four mechs to be competitive.

Derp. You are basically saying that if some newbie queues up with a stock K2 and I queue up with a standard gauss cat, it's perfectly fine for us to get matched against each other.

And yes an atlas is a 100 ton mech [classified] however if I'm running it at 85, guess what, that mech counts as 85 tons. That's how tonnage limits work, it doesn't factor the "what the tonnage could be" it factors what the tonnage IS.

How can you claim that's "how tonnage limits work", when there is no working system in place at the moment? You do realize that the developers are not restricted by the masses of imaginary objects, yes? They could easily change the mechanics of a tonnage limit with rules like: "Mechs are counted by the maximum capacity of their chassis, not their drop mass", "Mechs with ECM count 25 tons heavier", "Chicken-walkers count double mass", or "Mechs piloted by Jade Kitsune count for 101 tons."

Are you suggesting that the matchmaker should somehow magically rate your build and only match mechs with similarly-rated builds?

There is a major lack of design in this game. There is no general scope and there is no scarcity, therefore if everyione can have everything, there is no reason to not have it.

In battletech game Value Points (VPs) and Tonnage limits are already there. there is no need to reinvent the wheel.

However, battletech is a Universe based on ongoing facts. There is a global economy ongoing. There is scarcity. There are Market Rules and price to pay and expenses to respect.

It is a ROLE PLAY GAME. If you remove that aspect from Mechwarrior computer game, you have nothing. You have a FPS with Big Stompy Robots.

MWO is day by day becoming a FPS with Big Stompy Robots and total lack of meaning.

In Battletech there were games you were performing on the TT, either they were re-enacting of famous fights, "respecting the forces on the battlefiled as in the Story" or there was a sort of on going War. where each faction involved had only limited weaponry available and they had to handle theyr scarce resources at their best.

All of this is missing in this game. Does this will come in the future with the Community Warfare? I used to believe so. Now i changed my mind. PGI is simply not respecting the promises they made when this project came out. They are transforming this in "something else" that makes no sense and is boring like hell.

At the state of this game, with the Rules of Engagement they are using right now, they killed the Mediums. As many of you know, actually mediums are a liability for your 8 ppl team.

This is because players can have all of the Assault and Heavies they want. No restrictions.

Obviously a real Battalion would be composed by a certain number of Assaults, Heavies, Medium and Lights.
Obviously you would have Dropships that can carry only a certain amount of weight and therefore delivering only a few mechs at the time.
Obviously you faction should take care of several fights at once on different Planets, therefore would be UNABLE to drop 5 Atlas and 3 Rvn all ECM all of the times.
oviously they should start using what they can efford. Therefore Mediums would make sense again.

ECM is not the problem here. Is the Rules of Engagement or to better say the total lack of them, the real problem.

This game became a Farce and it s a shame.

I agree with OP. That a weight or class structure should be placed in the 8man drops. OR a lobby system would be best IMO. You talk to the team you wanna drop against and discuss what rules and restrictions you wanna employ during each match.

2-2-2-2 in line with lore? I thought it was more like "Assault lance" or "Heavy lance" etc. with various proportions of those weight classes integrated. 2-2-2-2 sounds more like "good at nothing in particular" and essentially a fail. Whereas something like an "Assault lance" accompanied by a "Medium lance" was valued as tactically superior? Or something?

Oh boy...i really....really REALLY! hope That BV will be introduced..and this fast

By the way..both ideas got some good and bad things

This 2/2/2/2 thing may reduce the players choice an bit..but on the other hand ensures it that the maximal ammount of ecm mechs will be 6 (bad enogh if you ask me)

Tonnage restriction on the other hand does not solve the problem whats existing right now in 8vs8 games..the opponent can still bring only ecm (just an lower ammount of Altas-DDC and more Commandos/Ravens/cicadas)

..so Solution...BV! (or restriction of ecm mechs per battle)

What about just waiting for MM phase 3 and then saying "We need / We want / etc.? What we currently have is not in its finite state.

That "magic" is widely known as Battle Value (a.k.a BV) in Battletech - look it up.

That's only life for folks that don't know any better, like yourself. The rest of us figured out how to remedy this particular problem literally decades ago.

2-2-2-2 mean
2 light ecm
2 medium ecm
2 nothing
2 assault ecm

for a grand total of 6 ecm....

I say limite ecm to 1 par 8 man

problem solve

Even better, how about do a "bidding system" that allows the teams to negotiate which classes to bring? i dont know how you would implement this but it would be fun.

Pgi, I implore you to put a "weight class" restriction on 8mans that limit's a team's compisition to 2 lights, 2 mediums, 2 heavy's and 2 assaults.

I would greatly prefer to, instead, limit the teams to a tonnage limit.

This will have a similar effect to what you suggest, but will get teams more flexibility in what they drive. For instance, they could choose to make one of those mediums into a light, and then use the extra tonnage to make one of the heavies into an assault.

Otherwise, I suspect you'd see everything settle around a single "optimal" build.

Finally, the matchmaking of matching an assault against an assault is kind of broken as is, because it makes it so that lighter mechs in a weight class get zero benefit to their saving of tonnage.

I'm sure people who are enjoying the advantages right now is more willing to wait for Phase 3 which won't come for another half a year at PGI's rate of production than people who are the victims of bad decision making this game more frustrating than fun.
