A closed beta program for mechwarrior online has been launched, and this will take place initially on North American servers...
fair enough, but not great news for other regions.
The beta program will not be IP restricted, so any geographic location can access the servers, albeit with possible performance issues...
better news for other regions, especially as worldwide service is planned for the future
Initially the 'free' closed beta will be by invitation only, from a pool of registered 'beta pilots'
Whilst becoming a registered 'beta pilot' is easy enough for anyone (reserve a pilot name and complete the beta profile), I am guessing that selection will strongly (if not exclusively) favour North America based pilots.
There is a premium 'founder' program (operation:inception) being launched on 19th June which will ensure entry to the closed beta at a later date (July 17th) this will have two tiers (Elite and Veteran) at 2 price points.
This may, realistically, be the only method by which non-North American players can gain access to the first closed beta, however, no formal confirmation has been made as to whether a non-North American can buy into the founder program.
Following the operation:inception launch (July 17th) no further data wipes will occur...
One can assume from this that the playing field for all beta players will be levelled at this point, and any previous progression will be removed; that is fair enough but leads to the big questions which have still not been officially answered:
If one joins the closed beta by buying into the founder program or by selection, will the experience gained during this beta be transferred/transferable to any open beta programs and eventual live servers or will it be reset? More importantly, will it be possible to migrate accounts & founder bonuses (mech etc.) to other geographic locations when these locations/servers go live?
This specific concern is also expressed here: http://mwomercs.com/...or-eu-oc-as-af/#
EDIT: the only official statement is made by Bryan Ekman "We do not have a final answer on migration. Our goal would be to support it" in this thread: http://mwomercs.com/...-answer-please/#

North Am servers is what I want. In every MMO out there I always play American servers.
Gets me the lowest pings and almost no ploss, as well as people who actually speak English and can commune with me.

I'd so buy one if it was in the EU... And i'm not risking spending for the Elite on a NA server for it to be wasted when the EU servers eventually arrive.

I think I'll just join the NA server, and see how it goes tbh, and hope my assets can be ported over at a later date.
It depends though, if theres only an NA server to begin with when the game goes live and then the option for an EU comes at a later date, I'd have to see whos switching over and who isn't before transferring. If you've found a group to play with, on the Na server, but not everyone wants to switch to EU, then theres no point.
I got burned with the WoT split....should have stayed NA, so I don't want to repeat that mistake.

From what I read across the forums I won't expect them any time soon.
Founder Package will be US exclusiv, too without any chance to transfer them later to possible EU servers.

EU servers may take a while to set up, but possibly there will be NA Servers on the East coast - then the connection is ok. Not great, but ok.
Besides that, PGI stated that talking about server migrations it "our goal would be to support it". No real information of this is coming along, but I'm guessing we get to know more about that at the latest on 19th June.
