Personally I'm impressed how many you do attend Norrall. You're several hours ahead of the rest of us, evening for us is crazy early in the morning for you.

Another Monday means another practice night. Since we have some folks on holiday the server might be called something a little different than usual. It's either going to be called something with "Templars" in the name or "Bacon Headset".

Please, don't ask why.

Bacon Headset is my fault, i dropped mine in bacon grease once, then did it a few more times. My apologies.
I had a few practice drops with some newbies yesterday, and I can't wait to see 'em again.

Unfortunately my ISP situation prevents me from playing MW4 with you all but I'm looking forward to catching up once I get a beta invite :)

Another practice night tonight. If you are interested, feel free to join. Our practices are rarely a "Templar only" affair.

Site is down, or I would not ask:

What are your views on Min-Maxing builds for specific mechs/roles? Is that something you require or encourage?

For the few months I've been with the Templars there has never been any sort of discussion regarding min/maxing or forcing people to use a specific build for their roles.

In my mind, mech builds tend to be more of a reflection of how you want to play and I've never seen anyone being forced into using something they don't want to. Obviously, if you want to play as recon, we expect you to use a build appropriate for the task (fast light or med). What that build exactly is is up to you. As this is an online game, I expect constant tweaking and balancing from the devs so a min/max build may not stay that way for long.

Hope that answers your question.

Here's the thing: We are going to do what is effective. That's pretty much non-negotiable. We're here to do well. If that sounds like min maxing to you, then yes, we're going to do it. I hope that there will be multiple effective ways to fill a role. If there are, then pick one and make it happen. If you're supposed to be hammering the enemy with LRM's, then I expect that to get done. I am not concerned about what mech you take, how those weapons are configured or whatnot so long as the enemy is getting hammered.

So, all that said, we're not yet even sure how the roles are going to play out and what it will take to fulfill them. Right now, we're more interested in building a group of players who know how to do all the basic things well - walk, shoot, communicate. Once the game is live, we'll start looking at what specific roles are necessary and effective and which are unnecessary and ineffective.

In this day in age, Min-Maxing in online games of any sort is often required to be competitive... this is why I ask. I have seen a lot of guilds say they will be the ****... only to show up on the field with sub-par gear and specs, making any good strat they had just an okay strat. Enforcing "effective" play sounds similar to Min-Maxing. My next question would be enforcement, but that may border guild regulations. I will follow up with that once I have check out the site.

Thanks for the response!
