That or "light simulator". You dont have to simulate every button or procedure to call something as a "sim" (IE if start procedure is just pressing P -> your pilot does all the correct stuff). More you do, more "heavy" it becames tought.

Exactly.

How "precise" your simulation is, is up to your needs and requirements.

In the end, it's like a genre. Is a movie Science Fiction? Fantasy? Science Fantasy? Does Sci Fi include Fantasy or vice versa?

Does Simulation include FPS? Do FPS include mech games? Aren't some adventures roleplaying games and some roleplaying games adventures? Aren't some MMOs single player games with global chat?

The only real useful thing is to identify certain trappings of these genres and identify which apply to a game.

MW:O has elements of a simulation and a first person shooter and even a few from an RPG (skill points and leveling). It also has stuff that's not strictly a game, like the mech lab.

personaly i take this game like future techy sim. not in terms like we use sims nowadays.
In this i more agree with conure in definition what it is simulator what isnt. For me simulation starts when real life physics laws etc are aplied in game so it simulates into some degree real life scenerios. And some of those aspects can be then used in real life.

But also meaning of arcade nowadays is little bit misleading then before, especialy when we look on games which are like arcade fps games etc. I mean personaly i used to play loads of operation flashpoint, raven shields, sum of all fears, A10Cuba, Falcon, IL2, and this type of games. then suddenly 1st GRAW came out. Me and my friends were all like daaamns stupid arcade now u can see where is ur friend u can see everything on map and so on. But after few years when u look what army and civil society took from games and aplied them in real life. Its sorta arguable whats now arcade and whats not. Becouse who knows what will be used by future humans from games into aplications in real life. Take soldiers now in afganistan iraq etc. Before they went in probably most of them hadnt any PDA with available datas about their teammates on battle field or even have real life maps where command can update u waypoint. And this things are slowly making way into real life from actualy games which we used to call arcades.
Anyway see u ingame in our stompy robots ;)

To be a sim this game would need to account for real world physics and well it doesnt , its based on a table top game ...

The game simulates the experience of sitting inside a fictional bipedal fighting machine looking out of a cockpit and using manual controls and throttle while aiming guns and shoot other mechs.

It's a simulator - It simulates piloting a fictional battlemech.

Sure, it's no A10 DCS but it is still a simulator.
