Depending on how the game plays, I may use the hated MW3 joystick and mouse combo.

Most of your common joysticks are understandably built with flight sims in mind, where a rough or large center detent isn't as important.
The x45 and x52 in particular have large and clunky center detents. Not as much of an issue when you're pulling Gs and trying to aim at another fighter, but rather when you're trying to perform fine aiming motions near center.
For that reason, I choose CH Products sticks. Almost as important is their reliability. I had a CH Flightstick Pro for almost ten years with no failures. As far as I know, it still works on the setup belonging to the individual I gave it to. Finally you have the price point. Many may complain that they are expensive at $50-120, but compare to a Logitech stick you get at best buy for $30-50: The Logitech will likely need replacement inside of two or three years, while the CH will in all likelyhood still be functioning. The combined total of replacement Logitechs exceeds the price of many CH sticks over that relatively short term, and the CH stick becomes much less expensive over the long term, on top of the greater center axis accuracy.

Are you being serious? lol
Game pads are the same thing as a joysticks, just different form factor. The computer will read / detect the drivers, and list it in the Input devices. In fact there are no drivers that comes with the gamepad as windows has included them with the OS.
When they say they are "Supporting" a particular device, that means they have tested and listed it among working devices with their product. Any other devices are a crap shoot if they will work or not, and given the history and use of this device with many "NON-declaring Supporting" products that it does and has worked with, I will bet you it works with MW:O, if not at initial attempts, I'm sure I'll be able to find a way to get it to work, and if all else fails, I will simply use keyboard and mouse
So just because they didn't "Say" they are supporting gamepads, does not mean gamepads will not work.
Man I almost tinkled a little lol
um. yes, i am serious, and NO they are NOT the same thing as joysticks. Proof courtesy of an online dictionary:

This is why I love my x65f. The stick doesn't move; it senses your hand pressure for the main three axes, like the control stick in the F-16. Thus there is no spring-loaded center detent to interfere with your movements.

Yea, I hope you wont be able to use mouse to aim like in common action games, because that would make joysticks instantly obsolete.
Joystick is a thing that actually got me to play MW. I had it for flight sims, and I was thinking what other games I can play with it. Then I remembered I liked Mechcommander a lot, so I bought Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance too see what is it like. I loved it, not only because the mechs, but also because how they feel controlled with a stick, just feels right. Also, what I saw in MW cinematics, mechs are actually controlled by joysticks in battletech (correct me if I am wrong). It would be so much shame if they made it so mouse gives you free aiming reticle to move around, something joystick can't compare with.

Cool as this would be, I doubt it'll happen; they'd be cutting themselves off from potential customers who don't own a joystick.
That said, I never lost a VL 1v1 when I was playing Mechwarrior 4 online, and that was with various joysticks vs. people using mice. As long as you're used to your equipment, you can mitigate any advantage theirs might offer. Might before metal, sword arm over steel.

Yes I agree, and I hope it will be that well balanced. It would be stupid of them to make joystick-only game. What I had in mind is that if mouse control will be like in FPS shooters, that means you see enemy, and you instantly move your cursor on him and shoot, then joysticks wont be able to compare with that. I hope torso rotation speed, and maybe slow moving arms will make this kind of play with mouse impossible, and thus leveling the field with joysticks. I dont doubt that joysticks will have advantage in control of mech movement, which if fine, since that is what they are made for. I dont remember how it was with mouse in MW4, not sure if I even tried it.
Also, I played MW4 for single player fun, I wasnt playing it on joystick because I would need an advantage. MW:O is a multiplayer game only, so if mouse will be simply better, it leaves me no option but to play with a mouse

Yeah, originally the stick was rigid, but they found that pilots were pulling too hard on it and over-controlling the plane, because they were used to moving sticks I guess.
Once you get used to the weirdness of the X65 though, it's brilliant.
