If the TM you're talking about is this one (http://www.amazon.co...556&sr=8-3 this) definitely go with the X52. The sensors on that old TM model are note nearly as nice as the X52's hall sensors.

I'm thinking the T-Flight HOTAS X Flight. Is that the same thing you linked? The link you indicated is truncated and I can't tell.

It is. I have a TM Fox 2 Pro which is nearly the same stick as the X Hotas and an X52 Pro. The X52 is significantly better than the TM stick.

Please tell me how. Also, how long have you had the two sticks?

I have had the Thrustmaster for about 9 years now, the X52 for 4 months. The TM spent the last couple of years in the closet, so it needed a some repair, cleaning and regreasing before it was usable again. The X52 really needed a magnet and spring mod before it really shined.

IIRC, the T-Flight HOTAS X Flight uses a rocker switch on the throttle for the 'rudder' control (which is what most mech pilots would use to control torso twist). The earlier model Saitek HOTAS designs (X-36 & X-45) used the same thing. With the Saitek X-52 and X-52 Pro, they dumped the rocker switch rudder in favor of a twist grip joystick. For me personally, I much preferred the twist stick, finding it more intuitive.

Another significant difference, I believe, is that the Saitek X-52 and X-52 Pro use magnetic (Hall Effect) sensors for the X & Y axis position sensing of the joystick. I'm pretty sure the T-Flight uses potentiometers. Hall Effect sensors are not subject to getting spikey from oxidation of contacts, or other dirt/dust. Generally speaking, when properly engineered, they are superior. The X-52 had room for improvement in that regard, which has given rise to mods (can be found on YouTube). As I understand it, the X-52 Pro improved on the older design in that regard. Potentiometer-based sticks can be excellent IF high quality potentiometers are utilized. Sadly, virtually all consumer market joysticks utilizing potentiometers use cheap ones. One notable exception to that is CH Products' line of sticks etc., which are renowned for long service life resulting from their use of high quality potentiometers.

The Saitek X-65F stick ditches both technologies by using force sensing instead. The stick does not deflect, but rather translates the force exerted upon it into signals. It not only senses force on the X&Y axis, but also on the twist. Bigger bucks, but a pretty spiffy looking HOTAS, including a split throttle controller (which is great if you are going to fly dual engine aircraft sims). Some folks take to the force sensing easily, while some others hate it.

This is exactly what I was thinking of for ultimate rig for this game. It's too bad I can't afford one, not that it would be easy to find one for sale.

I'll be using a Thrustmaster Warthog, Saitek Pedals, and TrackIR5 if it is supported.

Hey there, been looking around on the internet for a decent joystick so I can prepare for the release of MWO. So the most important thing on that list is a good Force Feedback Joystick. I was hoping just to get a Microsoft Sidewinder like my old one, but unfortunately they decided to stop producing them. So I was hoping I could get a few opinions from the Mechwarrior community, and see what all of you guys use.

Thanks!

Having looked around recently, my suggestion would be to buy a used MS Force Feedback. No one seems to be producing anything like them now a day. I thought I had seen a company oversees working on a new feedback stick, but haven't seen anything on it in a while.

I have a logitech x3d pro, which will probably be fine. I won't cough up cash for a better one unless I know I'll be playing long enough to need it.

Though I have more powerful joysticks for my flights-sims(A-10C especially) I picked up a simple Thrustmaster 16000m - both lefty and right capable and has a twisty handle(mechs, hell ya!)
Bit stiff handling but solid products for $50CAD

Anyone hear any support of the TrackIR?

PGI should partner with Logitech to make a branded great force feedback controller for M:WO.

That would be excellent and I think it would be profitable, if the game comes together and delivers.

If they are already I hope they let people know so they can hold off purchases.

Either my trusted Logitech Attack 3 (which has no Z Axis, unfortunately...) or Mouse+Keybaord for the time being.

But I'm definitely going to buy a new and better Joystick if need be. (or a second one to complement my Attack 3...could be fun, too)

I am quite disappointed I had to upgrade my MS Force Feedback Pro JS to MS Force Feedback Pro 2.. if you aren't on 64bit, and can get the first First Feedback Pro to work, I feel it's the best stick ever made.

I was planning to bring my Saitech X52 out of retirement as it was last used playing MW4 Mercs.

I worry about the precision problems around the centre may be unmanageable for precision shooting. But over sensitivity can lead to jittering.

With the new generation sticks using hall effect to monitor movements, there may be better reliability and precision than the old X52.

Guess I will have to start saving for a new stick if I find my old faithful is too far gone since its last major outing playing a mech game.
