Voted yes for buff.
TT machine guns do 2 damage every ten seconds to mechs, compared to a light lasers 3. In MWO it does 4 every ten seconds compared to a light lasers 10. Pointless Nerf is pointless and it's frankly silly that there's any humming and harring over what needs to be done to make it viable. It's not a bloody mystery.

Mech mounted Machine Guns were not anti-mech weapons. They were anti-personel weapons. Infantry. Not mechs. Of course they are going to do little damage to a mech. How much damage do you expect a Ma Duece is ever going to do to an MBT?
Edited for spelling. Cellphone.
No. Bad Internet Person. Bad.
Complete myth, machine guns in Battletech are anti-mech weapons. They do the same damage as an AC2 and several mechs (including solaris mechs, which only ever fight Mech Vs. Mech) are built around their use. Bonus against infantry=/=only useful against infantry. Heck they predated the introduction of infantry rules in tabletop.

Personally, I want to see MGs buffed, but not by much. Giant armoured robots really shouldn't have much to fear from a few small chunks of lead when they can shrug off storm clouds of missiles and super heated laser blasts.
I would rather see them still suck against armoured parts, but get a substantial buff against internals or an improved chance to crit and ruin equipment. I see that as the best way to improve the MGs.
I'm guessing you're thinking of something like this:
What you should be thinking of is this:
That's a GAU-8, it's a dedicated anti-tank weapon used in the A-10. It has the force and fire rate to punch right through a tanks armour. It also weighs 281 kilograms, so it's half the size of the machine gun in Mechwarrior. Still think big stompy robots have nothing to fear from a machine gun?
