2 damage a turn, the same way it was in BT, MW2, MW3, MW4, etc.
I'd even say as much as an AC/2 would, but now they do 4DPS, so...

I think 2DPS is plenty. That said maybe increase it incrementally, as we wouldn't want them to actually become a viable weapon choice, right? It's much better to just have an option to mount a weapon that doesn't ******* do anything. At least it is to many people on here.

I think 2DPS or 2x range and 1.2 DPS would be fine.

It should be comparable to a small laser that takes ammo, except worse in every way apparently. Maybe crit-seeking will make up for it.

A small laser that doesn't generate heat.

Anyway, I want them to get a buff, but think a straight damage upgrade might not be the best way. Extra damage to exposed internals or a higher chance to wreck equipment and make ammo pop off is more what I would like to see.

The damage needs to be increased. Having to fire a weapon 50 times (ie, over 5s) just to do a total of 1 damage and taking up 2.5% of the ammo necessary to do it is pathetic.

My idea would be this:

- Increase the damage per shot to 0.01 (currently 2.5x the normal damage) making it a 1dps weapon
- Don't increase the chance to crit BUT apply the damage of the full burst (all 10 shots = 1 damage) when it does crit
- Boost the velocity of the MG (and the AMS) to 500

Right now, the biggest issue with the MG is it doesn't do enough damage, when it crits it doesn't do any damage, and even if your target is 10m in front of you, if it is moving, you won't hit it because the shells are so damned slow getting to their target.

Yes they need to be Beef up. The idea is to have them to shoot the light Mechs and have the light use them to hunt other light Mechs.
Their are Mechs in battletech that have nothing but machine guns on them for the resin of hunting Light Mechs and power armourer units and ground units

Machine guns are not meant as anti mech weapons.
I think it's available only for canon purposes.

;) :D

I don't know how the armor is implemented in this game, but if the armor is gone and you have exposed criticals, a machine gun is a very nice way to increase your critical hit chances without concern for ammunition or heat. Then again, most things will just blow the limb off at that point.

I would vote yes, but the damage increase you propose it too high.

Increase it to .06 per bullet x 10 = .6 dps and increase the range to 180. But most importantly make them destroy incoming missiles using a similar to hit mechanic as ams. I would even go for just the anti missile buff.

I've never seen a Mech other than a Pirahna kill with MGs, Then again I never let the enemy get close enough to spend some of the juicy 200 rounds of ammo.

Nope never convince me that 2 MGs should be a real weapon to fear.

Buffing the Machine Gun in regular damage would be stupid. Machine Guns aren't antiarmor weapons, having them be nasty against internals like he's suggesting makes some sence however.

Voted yes for buff.

TT machine guns do 2 damage every ten seconds to mechs, compared to a light lasers 3. In MWO it does 4 every ten seconds compared to a light lasers 10. Pointless Nerf is pointless and it's frankly silly that there's any humming and harring over what needs to be done to make it viable. It's not a bloody mystery.

Mech mounted Machine Guns were not anti-mech weapons. They were anti-personel weapons. Infantry. Not mechs. Of course they are going to do little damage to a mech. How much damage do you expect a Ma Duece is ever going to do to an MBT?

Edited for spelling. Cellphone.

No. Bad Internet Person. Bad.

Complete myth, machine guns in Battletech are anti-mech weapons. They do the same damage as an AC2 and several mechs (including solaris mechs, which only ever fight Mech Vs. Mech) are built around their use. Bonus against infantry=/=only useful against infantry. Heck they predated the introduction of infantry rules in tabletop.

Personally, I want to see MGs buffed, but not by much. Giant armoured robots really shouldn't have much to fear from a few small chunks of lead when they can shrug off storm clouds of missiles and super heated laser blasts.

I would rather see them still suck against armoured parts, but get a substantial buff against internals or an improved chance to crit and ruin equipment. I see that as the best way to improve the MGs.

I'm guessing you're thinking of something like this:

What you should be thinking of is this:

That's a GAU-8, it's a dedicated anti-tank weapon used in the A-10. It has the force and fire rate to punch right through a tanks armour. It also weighs 281 kilograms, so it's half the size of the machine gun in Mechwarrior. Still think big stompy robots have nothing to fear from a machine gun? ;)

I have Core mechs with machine guns and have been core by them. I have seen HB use nothing but machine guns and come out the winner.

Vs Internals... Cool, Like an LB-X Cannon buck round.

Never said it couldn't be done. I'd just be embarrassed if/when it happens to me, cause I was killed by a pop gun. As they are meant to be.

My only concerns with buffing the MG is:
1. Making sense with the damage ratio vs weapon/ammo weight.
2. Keeping the AC/2 viable.

Sorry, but that's not a machine gun, it's an AC-2 The Machine Gun even in TT battletech is largely innefective verse armor, meaning it's mean to be an anti-infantry weapon.

No, that's a RAC2. ;)

Battletech Auto-cannons aren't technically auto-cannons either. The names don't really mean anything.

It's a half tonne gun. No matter what it looks like it's still not a piddling anti-infantry weapon.

I wish it was the AC2 which is nothing but a semi auto cannon, its nothing like the Gatling gun of a GAU-8

What I want to see is instead of changing the machine gun to make it useful, change the game so there is something to use it on. When do we get to see elementals?
