Look at Crysis. All of them gritty, all of them dirty, but all colors vibrant, all colors look....well, colorful.

AND GUESS WHAT GUYSH! ALL ON CRYENGINE!!!

I hate the ********* "fog of war" look. Disgusting and unrealistic.

Definitely prefer the more colorful version. Easier for me to pick out details in an environment where not everything blends together into a mushy spread of blah, and reminds me of the earliest version of Forest Colony- which looked a lot better than what we've got now.

The game could look great, but color filters and film grain keep getting thrown on top for reasons I can't understand. They've got these beautiful assets and skyboxes but they keep throwing themselves in front of them screaming "Nooo, don't look at it! Noo!"

If the current trend continues future games will be in black and white. It's the next logical step.

Okay, for people saying the right side looks to "cartoonish" and "unrealistic" or that it would just look like that on a bright sunny day... Here's a picture sample from swedish forests on cloudy days (different amounts of cloudy, but you'll get the picture).

Now, forest colony isn't in sweden, and the environment is a bit different than most parts of sweden, but it seems to be the same kind of temperatures and similar fauna, except pines aren't green but brown.

If you want brown, outwashed colors that's fine - but saying colors make it look "cartoonish" is a very weird argument.

*nods* The world is actually an incredible and vibrant place most of the time. Even places like the Sahara and Antarctica have incredible color. Please stop adding fake grain and running the world through the "brown doo doo" filter.
