Dude, this is battletech. It's about garish mechs shooting each other.
Now it looks the part.
Its impossible the mechs looks garish if the devs wanna make this game looks realistic.
Like in Frozen City and River City, snow and ashes are falling all over place. You can see dust of the heat sinks exausts. The natural paint scratches.
You can try to paint you mech with the garishest color, but it will not look cartoonish like you want.

I kinda hope they will leave the stunning looking levels we have already alone and make new ones.

I don't understand this ‘warzones are washed-out and anything else is unrealistic’ argument that people seem so fond of. Just look at pictures of current or recent conflicts, such as those in Syria, former Yugoslavia, or Vietnam. It's the same blue sky, the same sun shining down, and except for the carnage and destruction they look just like any other place on Earth.

I see it this way. Just go to http://www.mwomercs.com and look at the advertisements on the main page for Camo Spec, Pretty Baby, Death's Knell and, Spider. Are we getting the amount of color/saturation that these advertisements are projecting as " What it looks like in game"?
I am all for some more "Alive" color in the game. The "haze" is overbearing in my opinion.
Thank you,
Monnie

so do most of the levels in game. i will admit that caustic is an exception.
forest could use more trees but the colors are not far removed from the mountains where i currently live. most of nature tends to be brown, grey, and green. look at the colors on most military cammo patterns.
i am not opposed to having unusual environments, but the level maps tend to fit very comfortably with places on earth. specifically north america where the company is established and i imagine where most of the employees are from. they are starting with what they know.

neither of them looks like what i see when i play. i am tempted to accuse the OP of applying a filter to the first one because it is way more brown than the game i play. if i did have to choose i would definitely go for the left side over the mild acid trip on the right. the right side looks kinda like a cartoon. it's hard to describe accurately, but it definitely looks wrong.

The mechs in the mechlab are much brighter and more colourful, so are the maps.
However, I dislike it. Its too much colour for my liking and makes it look almost cartoony. I somewhat prefered what it looked like before the patch. (really its a non-issue for me personally as I will just change it via cfg)
I never really had problems with it being "brown" as it never looked overly brown to me, just a little desaturated......which imo helps stop cartooning.
Also mechs seem a lot darker on frozen now which is weirdish...

First, you complain about something to no end, many pretty much attacking devs in every way possible and then, when they do it, you took another step and start arguing against it, once again with insults.
Please, mak up your mind already. Either I want a feature and will fight to death for it, or I don't care and I leave it be, but you can't attack your own suggestions...
As far as I'm concerned, I liked it before and I like it now. Don't screw it up for me.

The places on earth you describe are clear weather (blue sky, sun shining down). MWO maps are dark weather, like Forest Colony (different from Vietnam).
Now that they oversatured the colors, people are saying its unrealistic or cartoonish, not realistic.

Aegis and I were the only ones against the oversatured cartoonish colors.
Now that the devs screw up the game with these oversatured colors because some guys asked for it, the same people that complained about it want to change it back.
I wanna save my game. That is not wrong about it.

The place where colors look best to me is in direct sunlight, like Forest Colony (not raining) and, ironically, the Frozen City night map. I'm definitely in the "less muted filtering" camp, but it's even worse when you pay MC for a paint scheme that looks unimpressive 80% of the time - assuming people aren't using thermal or something in the first place.

Now, forest colony isn't in sweden, and the environment is a bit different than most parts of sweden, but it seems to be the same kind of temperatures and similar fauna, except pines aren't green but brown.
If you want brown, outwashed colors that's fine - but saying colors make it look "cartoonish" is a very weird argument.
