I've heard it used to refer to AC20 cats and SRM6 cats. Let the poll decide!

splater refers to a big fat shotgun effect by each srm being a pellet. size wise they are like pellets hurtling into the humanoid atlas.

who's been calling ac20 cats splatterpults?

SRM A1 is a Cheesepult.

AC/20 K2 is a Whackapult.

Splatapult is when you fall off a cliff without JJ.

It's the srmcat/splatapult/splatcat. The splat refers to the broad swath of damage from the srms, not really the total amount of damage. It isn't precise like an ac or gauss, so "splat". Now, that said, I don't think it must refer to only the 6x6. I tend to refer to those as hexapults or hexcats, though they are surely the epitome of a splatcat. A k2 running 4x6 is also a splatcat. I would not, however, refer to an A1 running, say, 2x15 and 4x6 as a splatcat, though the effect can be the same.

splaterXXX simply refers to anything boating srms making a shotgun effect when they're inevertably fired all at once. sorry just simplifying it cause that's all the nickname is for really.

A1 Streakcat is the cheesapult, though ECM has thankfully pretty much killed that boat.

I like the Whackapult/Whackcat for the ac20. Thumpcat also works, as does slowmovingtarget-apult.

The OP asked about splatapult, so we're talking cats here. A1 w/ 6x6 is what's listed in the poll, so the topic is related to that design.

Thats funny. First the K2 with 6 medium lasers was the Cheesepult, followed by the K2 with Gauss, followed by the K2 with AC20, followed by the A1 with Streaks and now, now it's the A1 with SRM6. Lets see which variant is next.

This only means that there is hope for the House Liao as they can field one of the most formidable Mech designs to fight the competing Houses.

But the Cat is really damn good!

Okay, as a StarCraft player, allow me to elaborate the meaning of cheese in that context, which does apply to the A1 6x6 and not the other designs mentioned. It means a build that is easy to counter if you see it coming, but brutal if you don't. It's kinda a perfect fit.

Implies nothing about it being overpowered. (And it's not)

AC/20Cat=2xAC20
Splat(a)Cat= normally 6xSRM6 or 6xSRM4
StreakCat=6xStreaks

All are viable, all are not too bad to see at non short range. However you do not want to turn the corner to find one smiling at you.

fair enough but i thought the term/use of splatter was also a part of the doubts/question the op had. just trying to clarify things :)

There was a point in closed beta when the energy hardpoints on a k2 were atrociously high, and K2s acted like a better Swayback with many medium/small.

The K2 doesn't have 4 NRG slots BTW. I've heard the SRM cat referred to as the Chunker Cat. Also seen the AC20 Cat referred to as the BOOMSTIK.

Ah, must have been pretty early Beta.
