While I'll leave my original post here (prior the necro) due to the fact that people find it entertaining, I have moved toward the usage of:
Whackapult-AC/20
Splatapult-SRMs
Streakpult-SSRMs

This is not due to any good reason other than that I had to explain what "cheese" means every time I was saying Cheesepult, and sometimes it's just easier to move on. (Cheese is any strategy that auto-dies if detected and planned for and auto-wins if left unmolested. Liquipedia is your friend.)

As I now have a concept without a term, I henceforth will use "Smushapult" to describe CPLTs that go off cliffs without JJ.

splater refers to a big fat shotgun effect by each srm being a pellet. size wise they are like pellets hurtling into the humanoid atlas.

who's been calling ac20 cats splatterpults?

Shouldn't that be Scattercat then?

Splatcat just sounds stupid, and slightly reminiscent of roadkill.

CPT-A1 + SRM6 x6 = Splatapult/Splatcat/6pack
CPT-K2 + AC20 x2 = Boomcat/AC20Cat/AC40Cat

Boom + anything else seems to refer to SRM builds. It doesn't make any sense to flip it around for the cat.

Call the dual AC20 cat the splatcat if you want to cling on to that horrid name for some reason.

I've heard plenty of whining when running 2xLRM15 and 4xSRM4, so it refers to any Catapult that dares to fire an SRM once.

I always refer:

Catapult with all Streaks - StreakCat
Catapult with all SRMs - SplatCat
Catapult with 2xAC20s - BOOMCat

Cheers!

Indeed... if you end up in a PUG with me, and I type one of these three things into the chat window, this is what I mean ;)

As an aside, this is a good idea for discussion... I often call out the Splatcat when I see it in the chat window by using that name (ie. "alpha is a splat"), so it's good that folks know what I'm talking about and focus him upon hearing that :D

I always assumed the 2xAC20 K2 was the "Boomcat"

6xSRM6 A1 is definitely the one and only Splatapult. Is describes the look and feel of using it as well as the result on the target. "SPLAT" is so right on so many levels.

AC20 cat is a "boomcat"
SSRM cat is "streakcat"
SRM6 cat is a "splat cat"
Gauss cat is a "gausskitty"
LRM cat is a "trainingwheels attached cat"

See, if you take a bit of time to think, you'll realize that it actually makes perfect sense. It's all logical and stuff. Think physics. Splat = liquid expanding as it hits the floor. Or something getting squished. 6xSRM6 = equals a big splat. AC20 = the biggest gun in the game = big baddaboom = 2x20AC very big baddaboom!

Since closed beta, the 6x ssrm build was the streakapult, and the dual gauss k2 was the guassapult.
An LRM cat is called "stock".

(6) SRM6s = Splatcat
(2) AC20s = Boomcat
(2) Gauss = Gauss-a-pult
(2) LBX10s = Scatter-pult

AC20 cats are boomcats, or KC20s.

SRM6 cats are splat cats, splatapults, skill cats, or 6 cats.

SSRM cats are the streakapult, streak cat, or the Raid Boss, depending on how far back in Beta you've been playing.

I think "Skillcat" is a bit of an oxymoron in this case. I prefer the sometimes used "Bukka-pult" for the SRM6 Cat.
