Finally, after 490 games my kill/death ratio has risen to 0.30!
yeah, I know I still suck, but since the last patch my FPS has improved - so has my skill level
I even got a few kills when I wasn't in a LRM boat! :D

If your win/loss ratio is high, then your kill/death ratio doesn't matter so much. What type of role you play in your team's success, and how well you fill that role, is much more important. Scouts and support mechs will have a lower K/D ratio, but without them and their sacrifices the teams win/loss suffers.

I agree with Kor below, having fun is the only ratio that really matters... but I sure don't mind winning while I'm doing it.

The only stat that matters, to me:

Am I having fun? Yes / No.

And, Yes.

I agree having fun is all that matters, which I am

and I know that K/D doesn't really mean anything, I just think it is funny when people are bragging about K/Ds like 3.87 and such :D

A kill assit should weigh more than simply being the person that delivers the death blow (in my opionion)

Are you just doing Pugs or dropping with any team?

if just pugging, I see that since you are Davion, you are welcome to join us on the Team Davion teamspeak server at 50.22.145.232:7345

there's lots of folk on there that can drop with you as a 4 or 8 men team, as well as help you out with PC/Mech configuration

Uh, the Kill Assist does weigh more. Kind of.

A Kill nets you 5,000 CBills, and then 2,500 CBills for a Component Destruction, plus bonus for damage done, etc.

An assist nets you 7,500 CBills, plus a potential of more for Component Destruction, and certainly more for damage done.

Basically, right now, an Assist or a Kill reward you with roughly the same XP or CBills.

And don't get me wrong, I like having my positive K/D and W/L records, I just know it doesn't mean much overall. Some of my stats are padded, to be sure (I do occasionally run a Trollmando in the 4-man queue... hate me!)

But I can tell where my skill level stands from my own overall performance, and feel more or less good about that... most of the time. But, as well, the occasional match occurs where I think I've obviously become too old to play video games and should take up scrapbooking :D

You only get a component destruction combined with a kill shot in very limited circumstances and so right now, getting the kill shot is worth less cbills than getting the assist (which you dont get if you get the kill)

Xp is a different story.

All in all, the are you having fun is the only stat that matters.

741 matches, 0.55 KDR. I nearly got it up to 0.60 whilst mastering my Jenner which I was quite happy about as I started playing during the LRM-skyfire PuG-stomping phase and finished just after the Artemis nerfs.

Transferring to Centurions knocked me down to about 0.50 as I was slow to adjust to being able to run away and still keep overextending. Managed to crawl up to 0.58 with the Dual-laser arm and 3xMLauncher variants (finished elites with the 3 x SSRM build just before ECM arrived thankfully) but I've struggled finding a build I like with the last variant (minor OCD forces me to fill all the hard-points but dual-AC2s in the arm seem to lack punch somehow, I'm currently using a single AC10 but it gives me a niggling feeling that I'm doing it wrong).

So, I've found KDR useful for gauging my performance although some matches I've scored 0 kills and felt like I've played very well and been a strong asset to my team, whereas other times I've scored 3-4 kills by getting the lucky hit in. In general I'm happy with my performance if Damage / (Kills + Assists) is a respectable number, or if I get a lot of spotter credit, or if I have a fun match firing mah lazors at stompy robots.

I'm at .96 but I'm mainly support lrms and scouting. I don't get many kills but I soften up for my teammates. I cheer at components destruction because I know I'm helping out the team and earning some cbills . I do have more wins than losses so I guess I'm doing okay even though I pug a lot to test builds.

I usually aim to be in the top 3 of damage dealers, that is how I judge my performance. My k/d has climbed to .55 pugging exclusively in my hunch but as said earlier it can be misleading. I had one round where I was dueling another hbk. We pounded on each other for a while but I finally bested him. Spun around to get back in the fight and released a snap shot that cored a beat to crap stalker trying to get out of an LRM storm. I smiled, 2 kills.

kd is 2.3 and I'm not trying/last-hitting/disconnecting at all, I simply get the damage out.. 200+ games... I'm stunned by the numbers I see in this thread.

A lot of KDR comes down to mech type as well. High burst damage mechs have an easier time getting kill shots than DPS machines.

Oh, your KDR is 0.3? That's cute.
