Complaining and writing mechs off as useless before they even get added.
That said, I am looking forward to the spider because its fast, its nimble, and it can jump... 240 M
I like scouting but most of the lights so far are slow, and lack good jump mobility.
I can even see a niche for the flea. Its tiny its fast. It will be like shooting at a raven the size of a commando.
yes JJ are nerfed right now, as are Engine sizes. but this is BETA so I expect things will only get better from here. IT WILL JUST TAKE SOME TIME!!!!!

true.
I just hope there will NOT be a 6 energy HP Spider.
Then we basically have the small laser boat back (remember 9smal las 375XL Hunchback?)
Once we get over the speed cap, netcode issues and jump jet problems
The spider is a great scout and recon mech.
Not every chassis should be stuffed with HPs IMHO.
So personally I take the announcement of the Spider as a promise to finally fix stuff.
Edit: I think 4 HP are enough for the Spider. If you want more take the Jenner.
I can even come up with useful builds with 2 energy hardpoints. (2Large Las Spider - I will definitely build one!)

But...it's no faster than the other lights. All mechs are capped to a set speed. Unless they lift it, the spider won't be any faster than the others, but still has the honor of carrying no guns, and no armor.
So what's the point of adding it?

Because it is super cool looking and jumps 240m

Doesn't the Spider have those lasers in its center torso?
How will they even be able to add hardpoints if they're in the center only? They'd be putting weapons were there were none before, something we haven't seen yet on any of the mechs so far.

We want more mechs like the catapult, that has tons of uses, and less dragons, that are bad at their intended job.
In all fairness, the Dragons would do fine against other 3025 mechs (Worked pretty well in Closed Beta), if PGI had ever bothered to balance the core stuff in the first place, before the buff/nerf wars began. Hmmmm.... wonder if Buff/NerfWarrior Online is catchy enough....
And would have been a very useful addition if they ever added the Grand Dragon variant. I actually find Flame to be a very useful Mech, but that is because it suits my fighting style.
That said, I do agree that multi-variant, multi-use mechs make more sense than limited (but cool looking) Mechs. And the Spider.... well, they are gonna have to be very creative with it, to really work, IMO.

I agree that the Dragon is probably the most difficult mech to find a working loadout.
But there are 3 variants I get good results with:
FLAME - The Punisher
DRG-5N - The Harasser
DRG-1N - The Sniper
and for the lolz try this one:
DRG-5N - Crazy non-viable Sniper build
Never let the enemy get closer than 1000m!

If the Clan Invasion occurs, indeed we shall, but soon you will have Clan perfectionists flooding your reply to say "It's a Warhawk, you Freebirth scum!"
so I thought I would beat them to it. But yeah, it is my favorite Clan Assault.... whatever the Clans are.. because of course as a good IS monkey I haven't heard of em yet.....
