Just wondering if anyone else is running around with heat vision on all the time. Doesn't matter what map it is (well, caustic valley, but lets pretend that map doesnt exist), heat vision goes on as soon as the game starts. There is no downside to using it.

There are however several good sides, like seeing the enemy mechs instantly from the scenery. And not only will you spot every mech easily with heat vision, you can also tell their shapes quicker and thus identify the mech quickly. I suppose the only "downside" is that your vision is all blue but if you care about winning more than pretty scenery then I see no reason to use normal vision in this game. Anyone else think the same?

Yep... and it's even more necessary thanks to ECM. They might as well not bother with the regular graphics, since I almost never see them

I like the pretty though....

I am very disappointed that it is even the best for night maps.

It is a tool for spotting mechs at distance. In close range fights, Night vision (on the dark River City) OR regular view is better. And as ECM turns a match into close range slugfests, you are only gimping yourself if you use Heat Vision in those fights. And from what I have seen, there is hardly any depth perception in HV.

Yep, I use thermals all the time, only take it off when I'm actually brawling with someone.

Yeah...I use it pretty much on every map. Even on Caustic, at times.

I use it a lot as a spotting mechanic (started using it more since ECM) and exclusively on the night maps (still hate night vision). Once I have located a mech though I tend to turn it off for better targeting up close. Hard to tell what exactly you are shooting when it is all a blue blob.

I think it would be neat if the devs added another IW item or module that masked your heat signature. Would make people think twice about how much they rely on heat vision.

I've been running it almost all the time for a long time now except on Caustic. True it doesn't provide any benefit up close but it also doesn't hurt so why not.

Grey Man, that is Stealth Armor, which (fortunately) will not be around for a few years, if not decades. Only other thing capable of hiding heat signature is Null Signature System, which is los-tech at the current point in the timeline.

I do not use thermal. I suspect thermal vision may become a module you need to unlock, purchase, and mount in the future:

http://mwomercs.com/...le-warfare-cont

• Vision Mode 2 – Night Vision – Allows the player to see in dark areas/night
• Vision Mode 3 – Thermal – Allows the pilot to see heat signatures through solid objects
• Vision Mode 4 – Magnetometer – Allows the pilot to see metal through solid objects

I voted No, because I Like The Pretty. I have to say, I really don't like River City Night because of having to use Thermal or Night vision.

Also we were supposed to get a module that would allow Thermal to see through solid objects. Where is it? :P

On river city night and frozen city i use HV 90% of the match. On river city for spotting which direction the enemy team goes at the beginning (upper or lower city), then telling my team via textchat (wich will be ignored 90% of the time :P ). It's also handy in the foggy lower city. In forest colony i use it for sniping riverside and between the trees. Up close it's not good. You don't see if the mech is facing you or you see it's backside. Also in a brawl the heat signatures of your allies often blur with the enemys, making ff an issue.

People actually use it? I couldn't see a d@mned thing the few times I tried using it, and I've never had any trouble seeing other 'mechs in normal.

Thermal vision is argubly the best ingame on nearly every map.

I like the normal still more because of pretty.

I use it often, but I find that is more difficult than normal or night vision to tell what direction a mech is facing. This has led me to being in front of mechs on occasion when I think I'm behind them.

I use it sometimes when I need to cut the fog for enemies cloaked by ecm but otherwise I find my aim is much better in the normal view. I also find on river city night the night vision gives more contrast in most situations and I find the fuzzy look of the thermal annoying so I use the night vision.

I also cant tell what color/if a mech is painted in thermal vision and if Im credit farming/try harding I coordinate to kill painted mechs first because they often know what they are doing so Im more likely to win.

I'll use it for long range sniping or for picking out targets in the dark, but I find it easier to hit specific chassis segments without it turned on. If I'm brawling, I'll almost always turn it off, even on RC:Night.

It's true that it outclasses night vision in every way, though. The bright spots are way too saturated to make NV useful, and the flares from weapon fire make aiming at a single point repeatedly very difficult. Personally, I'd like to see Thermal nerfed so that anything that's not picked up as a heat signature is effectively invisible (read: solid blue. No detail at all), including terrain and objects. It'd give NV a reason to exist.

Its easier to tell distance and friend vs foe in normal mode... i use heat v early in the match / long range then switch to normal for sub 400m combat
