You know what's funny? If they had integrated the Pre-Order system I suggested about four months ago they could have easily raised the funds for integrated VoIP.

Yeah, I know Norris. I suggested it too, but it's too late in their cash burn cycle to go back and either ask for more money to recapitalize the project, or pull integrated teams apart and put resources towards VOIP (a la EVE) when there is plenty of assets missing from the game vs. what is promised in gold disk.

You know, that's a real spiffy idea. It only costs about US$3MM to implement given licensing fees, G&A hiring and product integration.
Any idea how many more Legendary founder subs they would need to sell to get this into the game ?
You seem like a smart guy, so I'll just leave this tidbit here.
Also, Crytek has no native support for voice chat, so it would require additional people to monitor and moderate.

There is a lot of things that game developers leave out and it bites them in the butt. Star Wars the Old Republic decided they didn't need a group match maker or the ability to do PVP in battlegroups, but boy did they need to spend for voice acting because voice acting makes MMO's, just look at EQ2's implementation of voice and how well it helped them fend of WoW.

They are putting out a FTP game that would benefit from voice comms for the groups greatly. Smart people can figure out ways how to make things work. Look at Google's hardware solution for their servers or MapReduce, both were very good ideas to do things differently to make a lot of money.

Since CE3 supports lua, you could probably integrate whatever voip software you wanted to. I highly doubt it would require $3,000,000 to license and implement either.

No one's arguing against you, dude. Integrated voice comms have always been something that people have wanted. Back in closed beta, when the devs were saying that it wasn't going to happen, I was one of the people saying that it was inevitable. I'm all for the system you're describing.

What I don't get is; What are you trying to say with this thread? You've put forward your thought. That's fine, but how does the system you're describing fix the game?

VOIP is a major advantage in any competitive PVP based game. A good number of PVP based games include VOIP capabilities in their games to remove the advantage. Why do they do it? To remove a competitive advantage that can lead to churn of their casual user base.

The majority of revenue for FTP games come from people who are money rich and time poor. They are the ones who finance the actual game, not the 22 year old college student with time to burn but who can't afford their ramen. You aren't going to see a lot casuals want to drop a lot of time in a FTP game that a lot of competitive Clans will require.

People are complaining about net code, ecm, lrm or whatever FOTM ***** they have, but what it really comes down to they are tired of getting destroyed. Repair and Rearm was removed and that was a horrible decision, there is no death penalty now in the game. A good part of the Repair and Rearm ******* were due to people getting pug stomped repetitively. Remove the voice advantage and its going to be a lot harder to destroy PUGs.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

R&R was killing the Casual, F2Pbase. Word of Mouth is what keeps a game going, if you wanna revisit the sub 2,000 players active days of the OB, be my guest but the game will not make it to August if they kept it that way.

Having no death penalty is what kills competitive games. Allowing outside advantages to exist that are easily corrected kills competitive games. Voice Comms led to an advantage for premades over PUG's moreso than play abiility, and people had problems making Cbills. So Pirahnas solution was to rain Cbills on everyone rather than fix voice comms. Bad fix.

All PVP games are competitive. If you are playing a PVP game to collect flowers and lollypops, please don't drop on my team.

This is a casual giant robots fighting game, that may or may not have a web browser starmap added to it later on. It might even be integrated into the game itself, or animated like the ones from WDT tiberian sun and dark crusade.

You don't punish deaths, even in competitive games. It makes them not fun. People play games for entertainment, not because they want a second job. The first implementation was korean. The game's made for a western audience.

Bad word of mouth slew MWO, but now we suddenly have way more players. Gee, I wonder why. The combination of having a solution to MISSILE, conquest removing ninjacapping griefers, actually getting your own mech, and not getting punished for playing in a big mech, maybe?

I've tried every ramen combo there is, having been a poor college student at one point. Never again. I'd rather eat my furniture.

Dude, I'm at 35M Cbills and counting. WTF am I going to do with it? I can run into a fight, kill 2 mechs and die and still end up with a 2:1 KTD ratio. I have no fear in dying, I just don't give a damn. Once dying gives your team and yourself more of a benefit than living, the game has got serious problems.

Fix your cranial ****** inversion.

Having that much Cbills pretty much makes gaining Cbills as a reward meaningless. There is no reward mechanism in the game.

I spent 12 million on modules a day ago. Today, I spent another 6, and I have 7 million left.

I also have a garage full of mechs, with all the gear I'll lever need. Welfare ammo didn't do anything to curb my power. It made the game unfun, and earned MWO a rep as a korean grind simulator. In other words, it was bad.

Yes, add voice comms. The one you added already Vent, Mumble, TS and/or all the others available are not good enough for me. I require you to rework the system so I can listen to preteens curse and call everyone morons. Then people will cease to complain about a voice system and move on to things like...can we stop all the racial slander over voice in games, how do I mute players, why do I have to listen to people in game I don't want to hear them.

Long story short. If you want to talk to people in game, you already know how. You just think that some new shiny will fix all the fail you drop with. It will not, it will simply add to it and change the flavor. People who complain dont' stop cause you listen, they move on to the next thing on the list because now they know YOU LISTEN.
