Our past defines us. It is a powerful thought, knowing that dozens or hundreds of players in the past have built the foundation of the group we now play in. It is also true that what we do, how we play the game, continues to hold that foundation up for players that will be a part of this group after we move on to other things. In this section is our history as we know it. A lot of our history has been lost and a lot has never been recorded. This will change with us, as we will actively chronicle our successes and defeats so all future members of the Ghost Legion will know where their group comes from and the struggles its members have endured.
Those Who Came Before Us
The 5th RCT traces its roots to AOL MPBT:Solaris of the mid-90's. The unit originally called itself Lockhardt's Ironsides in the employ of House Liao. Drake, the commanding officer, signed the unit on with House Steiner and became the 35th Arcturan Guards. Under the banner of the 35th AG the unit played MPBT:Solaris during its switch from AOL to the GameStorm network. As the unit evolved the unit's name did as well, eventually becoming the 30th Lyran Guards then the 5th Regimental Combat Team. The 5th RCT is a result of a reorganization of LCAF units in preparation for MPBT:3025 when pilots of the 30LG and Free Pilot's Guild joined together. This combination did surprisingly well, including getting to the conference finals in the 4th season of the Solaris Lance League. A lot was learned and experienced by all the pilots of this unit - enough so that we return during each incarnation of an online MechWarrior game trying to enjoy the same experience.
For those familiar with Sarna.net, one can find in the lore that the 30th LG eventually defected and the 5th RCT 'The Black Rats' used a nuke, were despised for their tactics, and were mostly destroyed in later engagements until the remainder were absorbed by another unit. Clearly, we had all the luck. Not liking this twist in the lore, the developers at Kesmai permitted us to change the details of our unit. After 'Ghost Legion' was recommended and accepted by vote, Kesmai created an insignia and backstory to tie in with the lore.
"The 5thLC RCT was dedicated to the former SLDF 25th Heavy Assault Regiment. The 25th was destroyed on Trolloc Prime in a five day battle with Kurita forces. The 25th refused an order to retreat and instead made a stand by the planet's capital. The 25th's sacrifice allowed LCAF forces to withdraw while they slowed the Kuritan attack. It was the first unit casualty of the First Succession War right after Kerensky's Exodus into the Periphery with the bulk of the SLDF's ships and divisions.
The 25th Heavy Assault Regiment forms one the legends of House Steiner. The legend says many a LCAF soldier has seen one of the 25th Warrior Ghosts before going on a mission against Kurita. Not one unit has failed a mission after seeing a Ghost of the 25th.
The 5thLC RCT's unit insignia includes the 25th's insignia. The LC RCT's were formed as part of the Steiner/Davion integration study of 3022-3025. They are a light version of the Davion RCT. Rather than mutliple regiments or different units, the RCT's are one 'Mech regiment with battalions of other units attached that make them smaller and more deployable."
It is the 5th RCT's hope and desire that we remember our past and keep the tradition alive going far into the future.

We're developing training videos and scheduling drop sessions to work on priming, coordination, and situational awareness. Feel free to check out our website for specific details. In addition, we're still recruiting for our Deimos Company and are looking for those pilots who want to work in an organized team setting but at a real word pace. Enjoy the game and keep 'Meching.
