They have the rights. We have no idea what the restrictions are. They may not be allowed to create "new" mechs for you pokemon/anime kids to drool over.

Closest mechs are the WOB Legacy mechs etc.

Sorry for you.. ;(

It's sad you don't even know what the games you enjoy are based off of, drawn from and made possible due to the countless years and thousands of man hours of work to create.

Kind of like people who are "huge fans" of a band, but can't name the band members.

AGAIN, HILARIOUS!!

What you posted is a pen and paper RPG called mechwarrior and has exactly nothing to do with the series of first person shooters we're discussing in this thread.

Very few of us care about any of that and just want to shoot giant robots.

Ponder for a second why they chose to call the FPS sim type games Mechwarrior.

Meditate on it even.

Your lofty claims that previous Mechwarrior titles "aren't" Battletech rouse a passion in my jeans unknown in the new year thus far.

Because it's not battletech.

You know, there was also an expansion called "City Tech". I suppose you would also like to argue that it is ALSO not Battletech?

How about Battleforce?

Here I am going against the advice of Mark Twain.

They all come from the universe of "Battletech".

ENJOY!

If it's a game involving tables, dice, miniatures, and lots of rules, it's what we commonly understand to be "battletech." If it's played on a computer, a first person shooter, and features big stompy robots, then it's what we commonly understand as "mechwarrior."

Mechwarrior is not equivalent to battletech.

I say good day to you sir.

I suggest you understand what you are attempting to debate instead of picking at obvious details that indeed, the Mechwarrior games were FPS video games.

The only thing you are leaving out is....Mechwarrior video games based off of and created from the Battletech universe.

Again, good day to you. I SAID GOOD DAY!

If it was so obvious, then why did you post so many inane arguments against it?

So we're in agreement that MWO is not tabletop and should be able to incorporate non-canon elements.

Hmmn if we were using tabletop as an example our lasers would have a cone of fire instead of shooting strait. Lets see you try to hit when the guns fire in random directions.
Everyone would have to stop moving for the weapons to fire properly enough to hit someone.

some things do not translate well between mediums, and some things cannot.

Example:
you could not create a color that never existed unless it is in a medium that is devoid of color.

Look fry you created a new color

Mechwarrior has always been an adaptation of the tabletop game to the real time FPS format. Mechwarrior is no different from any other adaptation in that things need to be changed in order for the source material to work in the new medium. The devs have already strayed from canon on some things, and it's a dead certainty that they will continue to deviate from canon.

I say that the devs should be as creative as their licensing agreement allows them. Sure they might **** off the tabletop grognards, but they represent such an insignificant fraction of the player base that they wouldn't be missed.

I agree with the squawk guy. I joined this game for the large metallic bosses firing lasers and slugs around, not because someone in the '80s created an admittedly interesting and vast fantasy universe. And I'm pretty sure 90% of the people around here are like me.

Ah yes the neckbeard insult .because sitting at home alone playing with your joystick makes you cooler then the tabletop gamers who actually go out and interact with real people face to face.

Eh no. There's nothing wrong with tabletop. There is plenty wrong with not recognizing the required areas of adjustment in translation to an FPS and ******* arguing about it pointlessly on a forum hoping that a mighty developer will stumble upon what you think is a mind blowing ******* idea that comes only once in a lifetime heralding solutions to all the problems.

I challenge that statement.

Just because you have a lackluster imagination, doesn't mean everyone else around you does.

It would be really depressing if all the scrubs that were part of this game had no care about the universe the game is based on.

Then again it would explain why so many 'people' leap to defend every stupid thing the devs do..

I would think that people who don't care about the universe are exceptionally quick to move onto other titles because they have zero loyalty to the brand.

The game should adhere to the Classic Battletech rules as they set how the systems are working.

Okay. No aiming then. You select a target. Then pick the weapons you want to fire. Then your mech will somewhat randomly shoot at it. You do this once every 10 seconds.

This wouldn't be much fun. And that's where the adherences goes out of the window. As it damn well should. Now this doesn't mean the developers can't stick to the feel and idea of the table top rules, but simple adherence isn't going to work.
