Then you missed
This one?

Which eventually became this one in 2006 but was merely a re branding of the 1999 Mechwarrior Rulebook!

i liked inception, i liked revenge better tho..... both were awesome fun!

me too but the point is the same, the battletech games were more pilot focused and mechwarrior games more mech focised. The names got switched at some point lol

What the hell is this Battletech I keep seeing people whine about? Where do you guys see that word anywhere in MechWarrior?

Also, when do I unlock tank tread legs for my 'Mech?

when you play Armored Core instead of MWO

Ah yes the neckbeard insult .because sitting at home alone playing with your joystick makes you cooler then the tabletop gamers who actually go out and interact with real people face to face.

In my line of work, only the most badass dudes get to have beards. I look at big, full beards and get jealous.

How about this.... Atlases should be able to equip all the upgrades AND still have room for their weapons.
Reliance on TT holds this back. The upgrades for atlases should each cost as much as the Atlas itself for balance.
Then we bring repairs back in and alter the economy a bit. Then a fully upgraded & dead atlas should then cost a huge sum to fix. Atlases should be rare.

Solution?

No. Tonnage determines the average size of weapons you can have, with its bigger or smaller damage. see: large vs small laser, or ac/2 vs ac/20.

Allowing people to keep upgrades and then not have to deal with the issues of balancing space saving vs not having enough slots for weapons and equipment is going to be POWER CREEP, that will totally break the game balance, and then we'll have triple or even quadruple armor to keep up with the issue, which will just be a cyclical loop of fail.

I do not want this for MWO, and you shouldn't either.

People seem to think building UP is better for balance than Scaling BACK. It's a powergamer rambo mode mentality, that is neither beneficial for the game nor the players who seek something more than "I GOT 100000 guns, ME SMASH YOU".

Noone complains about having only 2 guns in CoD.
Limitations are there to allow variation. With limitless variation, OP builds eventually rise to the surface, making all other items, skills, powers, weapons, upgrades, Obsolete.

I keep seeing this happen in games. I keep telling people this happens. ANd it keeps happening anyway. Since it is a fact that the majority rules, because Dollars = Votes, and that therefore the majority holds sway in what happens to games and game balance, it seems clear that the majority of players are ******** monkeys who just like as much explosions as possible with no brains or skill required, until they get bored and move onto something else. It's like locusts destroying crops and moving on, except the crop here is a game that could be great but will be buried under the weight of masses of parasites that destroy it.

This is a VIDEO GAME... NOT a dice game.

Quit whining about how game balancing is effecting your precious memories of your board game. There are more things to consider than (ie) OMG they can't give legs 3 open slots because they didn't have it in the TT game....

In my opinion:
Game development and balance overrides all things TT, MW & BattleTech canon aside from storyline.

There you are folks! Discuss.

There should be some adherance to the original property or else why call it mechwarrior.

We could just call it giant space robot fight and then do whatever we want.

In my opinion there is a short list of items that need to keep "old school".

Critical tables need to be consistant in order to reflect cannon designs
Items critical cost and tonnage need to remain consistant
Mech names need to be applied to recognizable chassis of canon mechs.
Lasers shoot beams of light
Cannons shoot bullets
Missiles have rocket motors and fly through the air

Anything else is up for grabs!

Literally the only thing from BT that this game should adhere to is the concept of big stompy robots. I'd welcome original mechs, weapons, and gameplay mechanics.

If you don't bring TT into the game, don't call it "Mechwarrior".

It's just as simple as that.

This game would be worse than Hawken if it didn't have the support of TT, a game that has been balanced over the last few decades to play "fair".

I guess random MWO forum people know better though! HAHA!

Mechwarrior is batteltech, genius.

It's the RPG element of the TT game.

You're hilarious!

Nope, mechwarrior isn't battletech; it's a spinoff first person shooter that is more fun than battletech ever was. Bring on new mechs, new weapons, and new mechanics, PGI; someone's got to keep this aging franchise fresh.

They have the rights. We have no idea what the restrictions are. They may not be allowed to create "new" mechs for you pokemon/anime kids to drool over.

Closest mechs are the WOB Legacy mechs etc.

Sorry for you.. ;(

It's sad you don't even know what the games you enjoy are based off of, drawn from and made possible due to the countless years and thousands of man hours of work to create.

Kind of like people who are "huge fans" of a band, but can't name the band members.

AGAIN, HILARIOUS!!

While we're discussion new weapons and mechs, can I have a pet that follows me around? Perhaps a little lizard or a Commando in the colours of Pikachu?
