How about this.... Atlases should be able to equip all the upgrades AND still have room for their weapons.
Reliance on TT holds this back. The upgrades for atlases should each cost as much as the Atlas itself for balance.
Then we bring repairs back in and alter the economy a bit. Then a fully upgraded & dead atlas should then cost a huge sum to fix. Atlases should be rare.
Solution?
No. Tonnage determines the average size of weapons you can have, with its bigger or smaller damage. see: large vs small laser, or ac/2 vs ac/20.
Allowing people to keep upgrades and then not have to deal with the issues of balancing space saving vs not having enough slots for weapons and equipment is going to be POWER CREEP, that will totally break the game balance, and then we'll have triple or even quadruple armor to keep up with the issue, which will just be a cyclical loop of fail.
I do not want this for MWO, and you shouldn't either.
People seem to think building UP is better for balance than Scaling BACK. It's a powergamer rambo mode mentality, that is neither beneficial for the game nor the players who seek something more than "I GOT 100000 guns, ME SMASH YOU".
Noone complains about having only 2 guns in CoD.
Limitations are there to allow variation. With limitless variation, OP builds eventually rise to the surface, making all other items, skills, powers, weapons, upgrades, Obsolete.
I keep seeing this happen in games. I keep telling people this happens. ANd it keeps happening anyway. Since it is a fact that the majority rules, because Dollars = Votes, and that therefore the majority holds sway in what happens to games and game balance, it seems clear that the majority of players are ******** monkeys who just like as much explosions as possible with no brains or skill required, until they get bored and move onto something else. It's like locusts destroying crops and moving on, except the crop here is a game that could be great but will be buried under the weight of masses of parasites that destroy it.
