The AS7-D-DC is supposed to sacrifice some offensive power in order to mount a command console, but it actually gains more offensive power potential instead. Now that it can also mount ECM possibly makes it the definitive Atlas chassis to pilot.

The AS7-D-DC compared to the AS7-D.

Head
  • +Command Console
Center Torso
  • -2 Energy Hardpoints (Medium Lasers)
Left Torso
  • -1 ton LRM Ammo
  • +1 Missile Hardpoint?

Why does it get another missile hardpoint when nothing has changed besides the loss of 1 ton of ammo in that section? IIRC talk in the closed beta was because the Command Console did absolutely nothing, ipso facto extra missile hardpoint. Which is undeniably an upgrade from those 2 CT energy slots. Now does that mean when the Command Console actually does something it will lose that 3rd missile hardpoint, or is it here to stay indefinitely? My guess is, it isn't going anywhere regardless.

In contrast the AS7-K loses quite a lot of offensive firepower potential for the ability to mount a second AMS.

The AS7-K compared to the AS7-D.
Left Torso
  • -1 Missile Hardpoint
Right Torso
  • -1 Ballistic Hardpoint
Right Arm
  • +1 AMS Hardpoint

Making AS7-K's firepower potential abysmal compared to the others. Compare that loss to the other dual AMS Mech the STK-5S, I'd say that one got the better deal.

To make the AS7-K a Mech worth owning I suggest increasing it's ballistic hardpoints to 2. Sure the Gauss takes up less slots, but it does weigh more than the AC/20. Which gives some justification for keeping the second ballistic slot.
OR
The only other option I can come up with would be the reverse of the AS7-D-DC upgrade. AS7-K loses a missile hardpoint, so have it gain two energy hardpoints (1 in each arm). Which basically follows the same logic that adds them in the AS7-RS as well. However that may be too close to the AS7-RS, even though it still has one more missile hardpoint.

Anyway, I'm just interested in what other people think of these inconsistencies.

The problem was the Atlas was one of, if not the first mech in the game. Hard point layouts were determined before extensive gameplay had occurred, and certainly long before ECM was ever considered.

I think the K Variant should be the ECM carrier.

The other three chassis are good as they are.

Would also emphasize the defensive nature of the K variant with dual AMS.

I agree that the ATL7-K should be the ECM carrying variant. The other variants are sufficiently strong as it is, though I question the utility of the CT energy hard points. Compared to the -D and -D-DC the -K is even more lacking in offensive capability. Giving it the ECM would balance things.

The K should have two lasers per arm, giving it a total of 6 energy, 1 ballistic, and 1 missile.

Giving K ECM would accomplish nothing.

I have brought about 7 mechs up to elite and it's become clear to me...

Some models just suck compared to their peers.

The Atlas-K is nothing compared to the CAT-C4 in the post ECM world, that can't mount a TAG. I'm glad I mastered that chasis before ECM hit, as now its basically relegated to being as an SRM boat now.

The Cicada has a really horrid model, as does Raven... oh god, mastering the one Raven chasis was downright painful.

Fortunately you can generally avoid the **** of a mech in the family as you only need 3 to master.

Wow, tu rd is censored on these forums.

The K is fine when equipped properly. I'd say dual AMS emphasizes the Offensive nature more in that it allows you to close with your opponents while rendering their SRM's and streaks near pointless.

there are a lot of crap models. that's how it is. the raven 4x wants a word with you after you're done ragging on the DDC

The travel too fast and are fired too closely for even AMS to be effective on them. The Atlas K needs some sort of additional hardpoints or the ECM crutch.

Well this is still technically Beta, so maybe they'll take another look at them.

You give way too much credit to the AMS when it comes to S/SRMs. It's really only affective against LRMs. Also, like I said look at the Stalker that has dual AMS which doesn't even sacrifice any hardpoints for it. I think the AS7-K could definitely use a small boost somewhere.

I'm not "ragging" on the D-DC. I was merely pointing out the weirdness of it's 3rd missile slot in comparison to the utter shellacking the K takes to it's hardpoints. I'm not even suggesting anything be done to the D-DC, but I do wonder about what may or may not happen to that missile slot when command consoles get a function.

I hesitantly suggested that above due to the similarity of the RS, but I think it's 4 energy / 1 ballistic / 2 missile would still give it an edge. Making it somewhat debatable which one is stronger, which would be a good thing I think.

Whole nother can of beans gets opened if the AS7-S ever gets added. Which going off the current mechs means 4 energy, 2 ballistic, and 4 missiles!
