Scored three kill shots in the game. All shots were within the optimal range of the PPC. The end score sheet showed me with 3 kills and a total of 38 damage.
How does that work? 38 damage?

Just a guess but if there isn't any more armor/structure to destroy on a kill-shot you probably aren't going to do full damage. 8 structure remaining + 10 points potential damage = 8 damage?

At least one of the mechs I killed was standing nearly still as he was playing keep away from a teammate at our base. I shot him with all four PPCs, center mass.
Again, how the heck does the math work to give me 38 damage?

Was he below 90m when you shot him?
The 38 damage makes me believe you hit with 4 PPC and 1 of the kill shots only need 8 damage so you didn't do 2 damage since it was dead.

38 simply means that there was not 40 pts left in that location.. so that 2 pts were wasted.

You may have hit him on your screen, but you clearly missed on the server. This can occur when you're moving laterally while firing.
Regardless of what your client displays, you probably didn't hit with all of your weapons.

Let's say a mech is being targeted by an enemy using PPCs. They'll fire and often I've seen the "stream trajectory" originate from where there is no mech. As an example; I watched an Atlas last night on forest colony get nailed by a PPC toting stalker, the stalker would fire and the round would strike the atlas. However, almost simultaneously you'd see another PPC round go off, but it was as if the firing mech (which wasn't there) was hovering a hundred or so feet up in mid air. The ghost round never seemed to hit the atlas, but it would travel in the same general direction toward the atlas, sound effects and all.
And Like I said it wasn't just that episode, I've noticed it several times lately.

PPCs have oddities. I've seen aimed shots go through a Mech not doing damage at all etc. Can be due netcode or whatever, but odd nevertheless.

For the record, I'm referring to actually knowing that I was hitting, not just thinking that since I fired a lot of rounds I must have hit something.
