But one thing I would have done - give everyone a single account but multiple pilots.
This way, they can have actual skill trees. You can build one pilot as your support/commander guy, and another as scout specialist, and so on.

You already have multiple pilots.. Or rather.. you have multiple mechs.
If they made it so you could only join a unit with a mech that you have mastered, essentially moving that mech into a unit's roster, that would allow accounts to be in multiple unit and unit types.

That would be too much like STO, and with PGI being the same size as Cryptic, I have severe reservations about it being pulled off timely and properly. Though I beleive PGI is a far more capable and competent developer. And because we're both from STO, I know you know where I"m coming from just as well as I know what you mean.
