that pretty much sums up the plan for this idea

for example if i like to equip my catapults with energy weapons, it would be pretty lame if the master catapult did not have energy hardpoints (just as an example)
so there could be a more energy reliant, a more missile reliant and a more ballistic reliant variant (or if is is a chassis that doesn't rely on ballistics a "balanced" version between energy and missiles etc)

i like the idea, but i was trying to keep this simple and realistic. adding in 2 or 3 more variants doubles or tripples the work that the developers have to do.

It is worth making stuff interesting to say the least.

Because then they would have to do, in addition to all the other new mechs and the upcoming ClanMechs and the HeroMechs and everything else, one additional Chassis for each Mech. That would be 19 new Chassis only for the Mechs already in game or announced. Takes away way too many resources from other development work.
Instead, I suggest they do one Mech for every 10 chassis mastered in Total, or maybe simply one for every 500,000 XP earned. (or 300,000 or whatever). One Mech for 10, another one for 20, and so on. That way, they would not have to introduce several at once, they could introduce the "10-Mech" now and the "20-Mech" 2 or 3 months later.
Also, they could give out other rewards, say, at 5, 15, 25... like for example unlocking additional camo patterns (like other posters suggested), or maybe let you choose one primary color for free to be used only on mastered mechs.

What might be better is X3 masters you unlock some xp unlockable mech line specific things like - 10% c-bill, camo, static cockpit item

It will never happen, because that defeats the entire purpose of converting mech XP to GXP -- all you need to do is get a variant that you enjoy playing in, and grind all your GXP for every other mech using it (yes, I know you'd need to master the variants on that mech first, but it's a lot easier on things like the raven or the highlander (right now) than on things like the hunchie, dragon, or centurion).

But putting a Grand Dragon up there would be decent.

You unlock the Chasis through earned mech experience - but only the ability to buy said chasis.
The Chasis is sold individually, and you need to buy the equipment normally through C-Bills later.
Likewise Hero Mechs remain as-is and untouched by this.
Basically make this a latter reward for experienced and continual playing players.
Example;
Master 3 of the Catapult types and use the Mech EXP (New box lower-right, opposite Master) towards unlocking the Master Catapult chasis. Once unlocked in the store you can buy the chasis and outfit your mech normally through C-Bills.

I don't like idea of uniques being added except for cannon mechs which can only be used in certain circumstances like a homeworld invasion which we will probably never see anyway. I'd hate to see a Diablo uniques system.
But I'd love to get a phoenix Hawk! That was my favorite light.

that is mostly how i intended it, although i figured the XP cost would be the only cost you would pay unless you bought it with MC (MC would be the method to bypass the direct XP cost), but either way you would need to master the mech chassis before you would even have the option to buy these.
