Since this topic isn't about cheating, as cheating can occur in any kind of game so its something any developer has to worry about not just free 2 play ones, I think we can get back to the topic.

I'm definitely looking forward to letting F2P convince us all that its worth it, especially when you consider it'll likely ensure there's plenty of people to play against. I recall when Planetside did their reserves program where people could play free up to level of 7 and it helped to keep the population up enough to play about any time of day. However once they killed the reserves program, the population dropped like a rock and it became difficult to find a good sized battle except during prime times on friday and saturday.

a company with an aggressive stance on the subject will have far less issues then those that dont.

That's the key. While Activision basically sat on their haunches and did nothing while boosters ruined more than half of the deathmatches in Call of Duty: MW2, Blizzard took a very aggressive position toward hackers, and constantly took measures to keep Battlenet clean, for as much as they could.

Once I see "Moderator" above your title, then I'll figure you to be qualified to throw around statements telling guys what they can and cannot say....

rrrowrrrr, a feisty one! It doesn't hurt to try to steer a discussion back on track, you know since you're only about two clicks away from creating a new topic. It ain't difficult.

But I digress, troll feeding aside, I can't wait to buy a Centurion :)

I love it! Anyone who says something a person doesn't like MUST be a troll. That's such a great tactic.

This is a bit more of an open ended thread, and it was kinda rude of you to just slap the guy in the face like that. But, whatever.

Saying something for the sake of being a ****** is being a troll.

This thread is about why MWO being F2P is a good thing, not about how F2P opens up games to hackers and cheaters.
Any game if not properly designed (and sometimes when it is) is open to hacking/cheating/abusing whether it's F2P, 1-time buy, or monthly fees.

Therefore the argument that hacking/cheating is easier in F2P games than non-F2P games is not needed to be hashed out.

If you have some other point that making MWO F2P is a bad thing or good thing feel free to present it, but calling the poster a troll or troll-accuser because they have a desire to keep the thread on-topic is not getting anyone anywhere nor providing anything relevant to this thread.

Well I'm sold. Especially how light mechs; GASP! Might have a place on the battefield other than for level 1 n00bies.

I hope we dont all have to start in a friggin Light mech, and yes, it will be AWESOME if Lights finally have an advantage or some use in game. I think this game will simply ROCK.

I hate to bring up the World of Tanks comparison again, but it would make sense if player progression gradually introduced heavier categories, while making improvements to what's already available. I can see players starting the game with a choice between a fairly well-equipped light mech and a more barebones medium, then slowly working their way up. As long as they introduced new tricks to keep lights and mediums useful and competitive, it would work just fine.

I find that people that don't like F2P games that have ingame stores dont have a job lol.
Not our fault you dont have a job. People call us wallet warriors and we are the ones keeping the game open
for the people that dont have a job.
I have spent over a 1000.00 dollars in WOT and Im still the worst player lol.

So, buy the game and play for free...

Buying stuff that effects the game (for better or worse) just doesn't seem right

When discussing being able to buy things with real money, I really do hope that everything that can be bought with money can be bought with c-bills in relation to how much real money it takes. That makes it a question of:"Do I want to spend $5 or play for a little while to get that item?" That would balance it out.

I hope it is F2P, since IGN already announced that its going to be F2P, and it would be dissapointing for newbies to the Mechwarrior universe to have to buy a game they were told would be F2P.

All the game that r F2P r limited and become benign. I prefer 2 pay and have a say in the game.

If they do it anything like Evony, you spend the cash to buy the c-bills to buy what you want at the game store. Simple concept, but works well for the wallet warriors.

I'm not a big fan of F2P, but I'm not against it. You'll see me in the game when my family time allows.

Personally, I hope they still come out with the PC game. I've been playing since it first came out for the Commodore 64 and have loved it ever since. I have a bunch of friends that when our wives and kids are going to give us the time, we meet at one house and set up a network to play against each other on several games. So I'd still like to see it sold for the PC.

I just hope they take the World of Tanks approach. You can buy things to speed up the gaming experience (helps people who dont have weeks to spend in front of their computers) and special items you can only get with live currency. They have vehicles you can buy that are stong and higher tier but they dont compare to the earned vehicles of the same level.... they just fast track for those that dont want to spend all the time to get in something they want. (that t59 is an exception yes!) Ive sunk much more money into that game than the subscription games i play and dont mind the slightest.

TL;DR
Allowing people to pay for fast track/accessories/shiney things = $$$$$ = YES!
Allowing people to pay for stronger MAIN items = dead game.

First of all, hello to everyone! If we need to pay monthly fee's for MWO, then there must be no item shop, if there will be a shop ingame, that shop cannot contain items that have boost against other players (advantages) ONLY some special designs, colors etc... (around look).

I will be the first to say, that we (the consumers) are not always right, and on the very rare occasion, we need the stick.

All carrots sounds great, but is very hard to deliver, because perception is the toughest carrot of them all.

F2P is just a phrase, the key is implementation, consistency, and communication.

Feedback is good, but this is correct. People hardly know what they want and it would be a mistake to follow everything customers tell you. Also having no incentive might give people no motivation as well.

The people who tell you to make things easy and accessible with likely be the first ones to tell you that you game gets boring so quickly and there is nothing to do.

Im not sure whether you have not played F2P games, or are just one of the people that find it game ruining or unfair that people can spend all their fast fortunes on these games. I have been saying it again and again and has been proven in the industry. These games (at this quality level) cannot support themselves on solely cosmetic items. If someones missles do slightly more damage than you is it unwinnable? If someone is going 3 KM/H more than you should you just sell your light mech? Someone has a special mech that you cant get without money is the game pointless? These things do not ruin games. If say you can only get assault and heavy mechs with real money then yes, that is a pay to win system. That kind of system WAS implemented in a lot of games and most have failed. The industry has learned, move on.
